Some have...although doing so forced them to purchase an aftermarket programmer as they started running too lean for the system to compensate for and the sound wasn't want they wanted so some ended up buying an aftermarket exhaust as well. A friend of mine did it to his Artic Cat Trail and it became so loud in the cab and around him he ended up buying a new OE muffler after trying an aftermarket...plus the engine wouldn't run right. For me just taking out the spark arrester was too much and had to put at least an HMF arrester in my modification to get it close enough to run decently. I've sense modified the OE arrester and pipe to work with my modification and all low end has returned. So...yes people have done it...and most regretted doing it..not all though...and doing so destroys it's low emissions levels. I know all this sounds like a negative spin, but if you feel the need to make a change in a key system such as this, spend the money and get the right parts to enhance it. You can always put it back to stock if necessary that way.

I'm not a fan of just poking holes to the cat. I think that is just a way of making it less restrictive with wrong methods.
I removed my cat on a cforce 1000 just to get rid of the heat. Worked a charm. I didnt see any gains in power. The exhaust note might be little louder and on cold start gives a lot of gas smell and when given some throttle there are occasional bangs.
I have O2 meter. Didnt check values before decat, but it didnt get lean after.

As I read and understand it, the "Cat" in any application, in good working condition shouldn't cause any restriction. So removing it shouldn't change back pressure or change the F/R reading.
