2016 ZForce 500 MIL Light Trouble
« on: August 29, 2021, 10:18:23 PM »
Hello All,

I'm new to owning a 2016 CF500US, after reading the manual I've found that the MIL light is flashing constantly. It runs and drives fine, but i'd like to know what might be wrong. I've obtained a service manual thanks to this site, but I'm having some trouble understanding how to use the 3-wire connector to use "flash mode" to determine the issue code. It says there must be an LED hooked up after a resistor, but it doesn't state what the resistor load should be to bring the amperage down to .5 Amps or below. I will post the picture from the manual below for reference. Is this the only way to do it or am i going about this the hard way?

-Mike

I believe that is how the circuit is normally. To get it to flash the code, This procedure must be followed or the use of the CFM PDA must be used. Look at #2 on this page. Turn key on then hit the kill switch. Read the code. It will start with 10 flashed which is zero.

Thank you for the reply NMKawierider,

I've just tried this method and have gotten some odd results.

When I try it the way it is written, the MIL stops flashing as soon as I depress the kill switch.
When I flip the kill switch back on, the MIL will start flashing again forever.
When I turn the key on with the kill switch already depressed, the MIL will illuminate for 5 seconds and then turn off, but of course as soon as i flip the kill switch back on the MIL will start flashing constantly again.

Any thoughts?

-Mike

One question- when you start it and it's sitting there running, is the light still on?

Yes, It does. It flashes as long as the UTV is running.

It also flashes even when sitting with key on and not running.

Then it truly does have an error.

Some errors are from sensors that if bad, don't seem to effect how they run too much like O2 sensors, coolant temp...ect. Worth finding and fixing though.

I agree, mine does run fine otherwise. I am just trying to find out what parts to look at and identify the fault and where it is, which is why i was looking into getting the codes off it somehow. Any suggestions?

Somewhere in this forum are the instructions for using a jumper on the diagnostic plug to trigger the flashing codes.

Isn't that what i posted up at the top? I thought that was the way to jump it, but i didn't know what resistor to use.

Can anyone tell me where the plug is located? I've heard it's near the battery, and while my manual states the battery is in the front, it seems to be in the back. Can anyone shed any light on this?

It's under the dash. There may be two; one for the EPS and one for the ECU. The one with the purple wire is the one you want. You may find it near the steering column, or you may have to drop the underside dash plastic to find it (2 10mm bolts).
