I went out for a spin last week to a buddies camp and while I was there the temperature dropped to about -10 C.  I went to start and all I got was a clicking sound.  The fuel pump did not engage. I had to get a tow home through the snow.  When I got it home I checked the battery and it was showing 12.7 volts which would be enough to start. I also located and cleaned all the ground wires.  I left it on a trickle charge for a few days and warmed the machine up.  Now when I turn the key the dash lights up but no fuel pump but the starter turns occasional and when it does I can not shut it off, not even with the kill switch.  I need to disconnect the battery to stop the starter. Any ideas where to look next would be appreciated.

I would replace the battery or have it load tested. My 600 started having problems starting and other electrical problems .The battery tested good, but it ended up being the battery. I cheaper out and got a Amazon battery and had to replace it a couple months later. It`s been a couple years and mine still starts great.

My guess is moisture in the starter solenoid. It will need replaced now as it is binding from case warp-age.

@NMKawierider Would this cause the starter to keep turning after the key is off and would it also cause the fuel pump to not work when turning the key.  I was suspecting a faulty ignition switch.

Doesn't account for the fuel pump...but a bad AUX relay or key switch could. But the starter getting power when the key is off means the starter solenoid's contacts are closed. That means either its stuck of the trigger/coil power wire is getting power..and I think..not 100% sure..that power comes directly from the key switch when you turn it to the start position. I'll look at some wiring diagrams to see. Most CFM starting systems should be pretty much the same.

It's looking more like water has gotten into the key switch and froze damaging it. The starter position powers AUX relay #2 which among other things sends power to the solenoid. The other AUX relay sends power to the fuel pump in the run position. I would pull it and test it. You can see in the diagram what's closed in the run & start position ...and what is not...which is all..when off.

Just wondering if anyone knows how to remove the dash in order to access the ignition switch.  I have removed the two screws at the bottom but don't see any other attachments.

Not 100% sure you can see it but pretty sure you can if you pull the hood, remover the storage tray..which there are some screws and one 10mm bolt, you can see behind the dash pretty well.

For anyone who has been following, the issue is solved.  The probelm was a bad starter relay and bad wire connector on the battery.  I also changed the ignition switch but I'm not sure if it was defective.
