zforce 800 not going into low
« on: November 11, 2021, 08:10:40 PM »
Hey guys, so it seems linkage is out of spec or something. it will set on low, but I have to jam it pretty hard and hold it hard in low when I get moving and it will stay in place, sometime it pops out though and grinds, so it tells me the linkage needs to be adjusted. I just feel like it needs to go up more in order to set. all other selectors work well.

Question is, I have no idea how to do this, or how it looks. I was reading the forums, but its all honestly chinese to me. Can someone help me out by pointing me to the right direction? do I need to remove the seat? or take off all the panels etc.

I read somewhere that adjusting the linkage is like the tie rod?

appreciate the advice!

Think I found what needs to be adjusted. This is from a cforce NOT a zforce. Would it be the same thing and is this what needs to be adjusted in order to hit low properly?

Yes, that would be the same thing. Remove the plastics so that rod is exposed..both ends-so you can looses the lock nuts ( I think it has them on both ends). Then loosen the handle lock nut under it on the shaft and screw the handle down. This will force the shifter detent to release and be free and allow you to move the handle using only the transmission's detents. Move the handle to Neutral and adjust the linkage so that the shifter shaft lines up with the mark on the plastic. Now move the shifter to each position and see that the marks line up. All the way at each end..ie Low and Park may be off slightly. Make only enough adjustment necessary for Low to line up. Now return the shifter to Neutral and slowly unscrew the handle so the shifter's lock falls back into it's detent. WATCH the shaft and the line on the plastic as you do this. If it moves back or forth it means there is an alignment problem with the detents. Unscrew it just enough so the button works to unlock it and set the lock nut. Lock the shifter rod nuts and try all positions. That's it. Now if by chance it clicks into low nicely and still pops out, it could mean one of the shifter forks inside the transmission has bent...and many have from popping out or being jammed into gear. Chinese metal is very soft and can bent easier then others. Think about this when pulling or pushing hard on the shifter... Al that force is being applied to one of these small forks so if it doesn't shift easily, rock it if you have to or even shit the engine off if that what it takes to take the pressure off the gears.. so it will shift.
