Zforce 800, front diff torque settings

Hello all

stripped my front diff today and no damage apart from the loose bolts in the crownwheel which is lucky. does anybody know the correct torque for the new crownwheel bolts?? thanks

Looks like 45N.m which is only 33.19 ftlbs. Seems light. Think I would go a bit higher and use thread-loc for sure. It says it's a 10mm bolt..the same as are used on the wheel studs so it should take 60N.m or 44ftlbs with no issue. Just go slow.

Wow, there have been so many reports of loose front crown bolts and resulting damage on a CFM 800, that one suspects whoever occupies that station on the 800's assembly line just doesn't care to do a consistent job of tightening to the specified torque.

To NMK's good point, I wonder if the lower torque spec for the same size fastener as the wheel stud, is because the former is into aluminum and the latter into steel?

Good point. Hadn't considered the carrier as being aluminum. That would effect the torque specs. Still...I would try and go a little more. For myself with anything CFM I have one rule; "Spec +5"..weather it be inch or ftlbs I add at least 5 to it.
