zforce 500 armor
« on: July 14, 2021, 07:31:28 AM »
Does anyone know of some armor that will work on the zforce500?  All the places I have contacted will not guarantee fitment for using the 800 skids.

Thanks!

So on trail models, all a-arm lengths are the same?

Yes. Only the EX and 1000s models have longer a-arms.

Awesome thanks!  I was beginning to think manufacturers don't think 500's can go on trails lol.  Please don't tell my 500, he would be really upset!!

I am looking at this armor:

I can't afford to buy it all right now.  What do you think is the most important to get....A arms maybe??  I've reduced my tire pressure to 7/9psi and my suspension is stock, I just adjusted my rear springs to full sag and then in 5-7MM.

It would depend on where you ride and the parts that take the most impacts but for me it was not the a-arms, it was the baskets or cages under the fuel tank and the extra battery box that would get smashed all to hell from rocks and trees that have to be climbed over. That's why I built mine out of steel and covered that area and side plastics. Heavy...but every time I think about taking them off I belly-out on some massive rock or tree across the trail and am glad they were still there. As for suspension if you want it right you set the ride height first in the rear so it sets loaded with all the weight it normally carries it's between mid-travel in the suspensions arc (50/50) to slightly higher(60/40). Then set the front height either level to not more then 1" lower in the front. You measure from the rear and the very front of the main flat skid plate. Mine is 1/2" lower. Then set the compressions(top knob) on front to full fast minus 1-2 clicks toward the slow, then the rebounds(lower) to full closed(slow) then open 2-3 clicks to preference. Same for rear. That takes the springy bounce out. Tire pressure is last. I found not less then 7psi on stock wheels as the beads tend to pop too easy with less.. and not more then 9psi works best for most any situations. I run 8-8.5 mostly.  Good luck

Ditto what NM said. I got lazy and bought the full Ricochet 800 Trail set with the UHMW overlays and I can't say enough how satisfied I am with them.  I have beat them like a rented mule, from here in BC to Utah and back and as often as I think after an enormous whallop I'm going to see big damage underneath, it is never so. Strong like bull.

He's right about those two side baskets of flimsy steel. One is right under the gas tank and in my case a dent had already shoved metal up against the underside of the plastic gas tank. Not good.
The Ricochet set covers these completely.

Thanks guys, looks like I will be ordering at least the side armor plates, I see the one under my tank has taken a few hits already.
