Yet another battery?
« on: August 08, 2021, 04:54:09 PM »
Today went to start mine to load it on the truck for a trip tomorrow and nothing..even though it stays on a tender and it said it was charged. Tests shows it had an open cell. This was the second Yuasa battery sense 2015. This one lasted only about 2.5 years. In a pinch for time I bought this Duracell from Batteries Plus. A bit pricey but not as much as an LI battery. Hope to have better luck. I guess better to have it fail in the shop then out on the trail. :)

NWK,
when I had the motorcycles three cruisers, the  Yuasa batteries seem to give up ghost at about that time, wasn't really happy with them, so went to AGM batteries ,they lasted about same time, lawn mowers about a year or so, so guess thats about average for these small batteries, unless you want to spend really big bucks, but dont thing they last that much longer to justify expense.  I do carry a compact jumper pack now.

Must be the times...I...and many others used to use them in our ATVs and got 3-5 years out of them...but that's long ago. I was going to go with an LI battery but this came up unexpected. Starting to wonder if leaving these small batteries on a tender all the time is a good idea.

FYI, not a hi-tech article but a practical one.   Somewhat applicable to small off-road like quads and side by sides.  I left the lead/acid batteries behind quite a long time ago in my motorcycles, and boats. Also have them on my travel trailer and two in my diesel truck. I will be installing one in my side by side. not quite ready for the lithium in it. Maybe if I keep it more than a couple of years.  https://www.bobsbmw.com/community/articles/lithium-vs-agm-motorcycle-batteries/
