I bound my winch up the other night. Going to get a replacement. Thinking a 5k winch. What winch have you guys used successfully without modification?  Seems like it might be a tight fit in the factory spot.

A large capacity winch would be wasted unless the power supply has enough amperage and recovery to make use of it. JMHO.

Yeah and I don't think a 5k winch will fit or even bolt in there. 3500 would be what I would look at for a replacement. 3000 is what it came with and is more then twice the vehicle weight anyway so even it's just fine...something not Chinese would be an improvement though...lol

Maybe not 5k. I've seen 3500 and 4500. I have dual batteries for when i do need to use it heavily.

As I understand it, all winches between certain sizes have a standard bolt pattern...like between 1500 & 3500 (Just an example) all will bolt to the same mount. But that doesn't mean that there is physically enough room in an area for a larger design so be carefull and check the physical size dimensions.

So.  Bolt pattern looks like the standard 3" x 4 7/8" pattern. 2 holes are slotted for slight variation.   Winch dimensions approximately 13.5" long 4.5" high 4.5" deep. There is room to go longer,  maybe 5" deep and 5.5" high.  But all seem to be about the same dimensions.   Some 4500lb winches have a 3" x 6.6" pattern some have the smaller pattern.   I bought a cheap ass one from amazon for $140 with synthetic rope as its pretty easy to change out even rough my plow bracket and rival bumper.  If it's junk i'll try the black ops 3500lb one.

You can get more from the stock winch if you use a snatch block.

Yes,  i'm aware.  I've never really needed more than what it could give.  I'm replacing it due to a night i got stuck with a few too many happy drinks and i got a rat's nest in it and the cable actually went behind the spool and bound up,  destroyed the seals ect.

Got it. I thought you just wanted a bigger winch. It sounded like a good idea with those liquor lenses. We’ve all been there. 😂😂

So i bought a 4500lb xbull winch from amazon with a synthetic rope for $140. It bolted right in.  Everything lined up right and the power and ground were in the exact same spot. I'm not going to hook up the wireless remotes as i don't really care i use it mostly for plowing and don't feel like doing wiring.  I took off the plastic front bumper guard thing.  That frees up a lot of space and makes the winch more accessible.  I have a rival front bumper that has a guard so i'm going to leave the plastic off and see how it goes. If it gets caked in mud i'll have to put the plastic cover back on.
