Why you need a good air filter.
« on: July 24, 2016, 04:31:41 PM »
Decided to check and clean the air filter.  And make a "hood" over the prefilter out of the foam from the stock filter.

Wow .... I hate these July/August dustbowl rides !! Last month was so bad that I just bought a new air filter. Looks like you sucked up a lot more than you expected to see in there.

Is that dust on the intake track? How do you have your filter mounted and...what oil are you using on it?

Yeah, that dust on the track was my fault. Lol. Dummy me wiped my dust covered finger around it.  Not sure what oil they used, had the dealer change it out last time it was in.
As far as the mounting the prefilter?? Just pretty much stpitting on top of the pre filter bag.

I just wanted to be sure they used the sleeve between the two cause I think I see dust all the way to the throttle plate and dark accumulation around it's edges like constant dust is getting through.

FAB-1 is good foam filter oil.

Yeah they used the sleeve. I did notice that too.  Didn't seem to be well oiled when I cleaned it.

Yeah, I think the 2.25" are 57mm. I would do that very soon. If he's right, then it's this one:

Be sure to get oil and cleaner with it.

There is also the TwinAir which is supposed to be CFM certified to use...which is the one I use in the airbox:
