What in the sweet eff is going on around here?  It's really simple.  If you have the UNI filter, buy the $20 cleaning/oiling kit that UNI sells.
Uni sells a cleaning kit? Never heard that news! Never saw it, all I have seen are the filters.
That's how it goes.  ???

Any No-Toil fans/users out there?  I use their rim grease, but see they also sell filter oil and cleaner.

I used to love it....used it for many years but..I couldn't stop it from atomizing and being pulled into the intake and coating the air temp sensor no matter what I did. Once that got coated mine would die a lot for no reason when going in reverse and just touching the gas. So I switched to Maxima Fab-1 and it's cleaner. It and a little paper towel roll-up inside after treatment and a good drying period stopped my issues.

To clean my Uni air filter I half fill a 5 gallon bucket with hot water and put a shot of laundry detergent in that. I abuse the element with vinyl gloved hands until it is clean, (edit: I forgot to mention the clean garden hose water rinse at this point) then squeeze it dry Finally I plug the filter element onto the outlet of my shop vacuum (a perfect fit on the Uni) and turn it on. In 15 minutes the foam is dry and ready for its proper anointing with foam filter oil. :D

To clean and service mine, I spray it down well with the FAB-1 cleaner, work it through well and let it sit a few minutes. Then to the sink where it gets a full rinse. I then blow it a little with the air hose and let it sit to dry naturally..sometimes in the sun. I would use a vacuum like glenlivet but there's so much dust in the air here in 15 minutes there would be a good amount already trapped in the filter. I then spray it down well inside and out with the oil, work it well all the way through. Then before it looses all it's transporter (the alcohol) I stick a few clean paper towels inside and give it a gentle roll-up to suck-up any excess. This ensures I don't get any atomization or cast-off that will coat the air temp/mass airflow sensor. I then let it dry completely before installing usually..but sometimes I go a head and install it but I don't start it until I know its completely dry..don't want any oil to move- off those cell walls. That's it.

What if you put an oiled Uni filter on the vacuum inlet? Where does it end? :)

Yeah..not the most pleasant smell. I did try some Tide to clean mine but after it dried it was still sticky so I figured it hadn't got all the oil treatment out. And if that wasn't all out whet else was still caught in the cells. And if I don't wait long enough for the cleaner to work.. I get the same thing. Patience is key I guess. :)
