Uforce 500 HO Oil Type
« on: May 28, 2017, 04:36:05 PM »
I purchased a new UForce 500 HO in late September. The dealer told me to change the oil at 750 KM which I did. I bought the cfmoto oil change kit from the dealer. Drained the oil on a Saturday morning, took the old filter off and opened the box to find a spin on filter where as mine takes a cartridge filter. I don't live far from the dealer so I ran out and they exchanged it for the right filter. The kit also came with 5w 40 full synthetic oil, which I used assuming if it came in the kit from CFMoto, it is the proper oil.

Today while thumbing through the manual looking up another issue, I noticed the recommended oil is 15-40 sg. It doesn't mention anything about synthetic. Now I am wondering if they sold me a kit for a different machine and it is not the right oil. Thoughts anyone?

I don't think any of them show a 5w40 in the owners manual. I think all say 15w40 and none say to use synthetic although most of us are on some kind of synthetic after break-in and I don't think the 500 has a wet clutch so that's not an issue. I'm not sure the 5w40 is really a problem either. I think if I lived in a cold area...like you..I would use it or a 0w40 in the winter months. If you were in a real hot area I might suggest a 10 or 15w40 for sure.

I'm running 0W40 synthetic year round in my 500. Hot or cold I'm covered. Have been with my other ATV's in the past as well for years without any issues. I may bump it up to 5W40 though as the 0 is now overkill with global warming and all....lol

no reason to ever run a 15w in my opinion. you start your vehicle when it's hot and it doesn't hurt anything and that is when oil is already at it's thin running temp, why would it be any worse starting a cold engine on a hot day. I run rottela T6 which is a synthetic 5w-40

spin-on filter is for the "old" 500 engine or the non-HO engine
