Trailering, Let's See those trailers!
« on: April 28, 2016, 01:13:52 PM »
I always find it interesting to see how other folks haul their stuff around; myself, I needed a longer trailer last winter for our (3) Skidoo Summits, they are LOONG so the trailer had to be 20'6 long. Like a moron, I decided to build the trailer myself; "hey, the frame's only $300.00, I can put this together". 1700 rivets & $5600.00 in materials later, this is my trailer, below (I will NEVER do this again...) I installed a 60 gallon fuel tank in the front, plus storage for lots of crap; the guy that painted it for me painted it when it was too cold, so that's going to get redone at some point.

I got REALLY lucky & both of the EX's fit on it, not by much, though.

I just finished installing the tie downs for them, I want some bigger U clamps to hold the wood decking down better on the frame of the trailer.
Best-
Chris

Holy trailer!!! Luckily I am close enough to some trails that I don't need a trailer. When it does my neighbor hauls it. His RZR 900 and my Z should fit fine.

I highly recommend one of these to make locking an ATV/SxS into a trailer a super easy, super secure procedure - http://www.amazon.com/Kolpin-Trailer-Dog-Atv-Down/dp/B001GKSQRW
No more straps or tie downs that can quite easily slip loose or come undone.

Just wish I didn't have to sell my current 5x8 to move up to a larger trailer to fit the inevitable z800 EX in my future.

Best picture I have of my little trailer I actually added 10" to the front so it would fit.

Now that Bus would be cool to have for the long hauls..

That bus is OUTSTANDING!!!!! I love it, lots of room, plus you get the front for storage & maybe sleeping? Very very cool....

Walkin, I wish I had more room on my deck, I'd buy a couple of those Kolpins, they look simple & functional.

GF, I can drive to a bunch of trails etc from my house, but there's SO many places around here that I want to go to that are within an hour's drive that using the trailer just makes sense, sometimes. The local trails are ok...til I get bored..."been there done that" kind of thing, right?

Derfer22 is in the same boat as me with his undersized trailer. I assume that's a 5x8 ? Man, that must be TIGHT on the sides ! What, maybe 1/4" on each side to shove it in there ? That would annoy me to no end loading it, as I'd be scratching up the rims and chewing chunks of tire up trying to get it on there.

My buddy is looking at buying an ATV the end of this year, so I'm probably going to sell him mine and then go shopping. Still undecided on an open or enclosed. Open is a lot cheaper, allowing SxS upgrades like doors and windshield to be bought immediately. Enclosed is twice the price, but allows me to free up a LOT of garage space and store all my gear in the trailer too.

@Revolutionary- very true, however I don't know if the fusion is up for the challenge of towing the Z, probably be better towing the fusion WITH the Z. Lol

I've seen that bus setup in my travels. I wish I had a picture of one I saw. It was similar but had more camper space and a dubble decker hauling area. I think they tipped down the top, loaded, than raised it up to put more wheelers under. School buses are built tough and are a great canvas to build your "vision". I wish I had used one instead of the mini transit bus I have now. Forest roads are rough and it takes a beating.

That bus is awesome.  I have an enclosed trailer that is too small for the buggy.  I have to let the air out of the tires to get it in LOL

Bigjim, you are a man with a HUGE set of.....I know, over what I went through with my trailer, started the same way you did; "I'll have this done in a couple of weeks". Never said anything so dumb before.....WTH???

And Marine, that trailer looks NICE.

Harley, I've done that on trailers too many times......it works but don't look happy. Meh, they're not that heavy anyways....
