Title: Top speed
Post by: gfmoto on September 24, 2016, 01:08:27 PM
I know we've went over this before and it differs with everyone. But I'm still only getting a top speed of 53/54 mph. Now I do have the front AND back windows and roof with light bar on top. But could that really make a 10mph difference or should I be concerned. ( clean and oiled UNI filter ) (even with the top 1/2 windshield out)  (distance 1/8th mile or so) (tire pressure 12/10 lbs) (89 or 93 octane no difference) (about 20lbs of tools) and (I'm 195 lbs)
So could it just be the back windshield acting like a parachute?

These seem to be effected by weight and wind drag pretty easily. It certainly does on mine. Having my prefilter suck-down to the mushroom filter at higher RPMs didn't help either. Try taking the rear windshield out and leaving the 1/2 in the front. If it makes a difference. If your valves have not been set lately, maybe it's time to check them. That really has an effect on power.

that seems slow man! Have you done anything to the clutch ?

Never had the valves set, nor did I ever think to.  Not even sure how to do that.  Guess I can ask my neighbor, he used to build race cars, now retired changed valves in his and his sons 3 RZR s. Rebuilt roll cage on his mule, restored farm tractor, backhoe, etc etc. really knows his machines.

Nope, dealer delivered it almost a year ago, and haven't touched a thing. I mean I don't need it to really go any faster, but hearing the rest going much faster....just want to make sure it's ok before warranty is up. And don't want to say hey, I've been flooring this this and should it go faster!?!?

Well you should be in the 60s somewhere. Mid to upper would be norm with most things stock especially tires.

I got mine up to 72mph and after I set the clutch to b2 with 23g sliders 69mph and my friend has a 800zforce stock I got that up to 71mph.

Do either of you have both front and back windows?

I was running about 71 but i started adding some stuff and messing with the clutch.  Now im running about 65 last time i checked.  I was running about 52 on the sand dunes with but i was aired down to 2 psi so that makes a big difference.  I would say check without your accessories on  and see what you can run.

if you are noticing a significant or "abnormal" reduction in speed as observed on the display, confirm with something gps based. There is a calibration for speedo that some folks have accidentally changed while trying to reset the service reminder (oil can symbol), that could be your issue.

Yeah, that's interesting. Please explain. On my Brute I have a Trail Tech Voyager which among many other things, has a speedometer which has a sensor on one wheel. In setup, it has calibration setting for different size tires which is very cool. It would be awesome if something like this existed for these because many of us put larger tires on them which throws the speedometers off. It would be great to get them back on point.

Are you bouncing off red line when you hit top speed

It never hit the rev limiter if that's what you mean.

I have a little update. I was having a top-end problem in that I couldn't reach anywhere close to the RPM limiter. I found that my prefilter on the mushroom filter was being sucked-down to the filter so I removed it and changed the dual stage filter material to a single stage. Today I took it for a run. It helped..but didn't cure the problem. As it reaches speeds over 50 it seems the higher it gets, the longer it takes to get there. Its like its fighting something. I did reach 65 but still had a ways to go to the limiter. I opened my flip windshield and although I don't want to go past 40, it did reach 40 much faster open then closed. So..maybe these windshields and rear shields are having more effect on these then we think.

Oh yeah windshields have a BIG effect on the speed.  As an example try to hold a piece of ply wood that is 1'x1' out the window at 55mph.  If it doesnt fly out of your hands it may well break your arm.  Now multiply that by about 5 for a half windshield and by 15 for a full.  Now imagine those forces.

Exactly. That's how it acts...and feels. And the windshield is the only change I made between being able to hit the limiter and now not being able to.  That means the 600s and 500s would struggle even harder.. and to reach even lower speeds.
