tires
« on: December 20, 2023, 11:19:48 AM »
Good Afternoon,
I cant find a lkq tire to get me up and running Maxxis says that a resupply to Parts Unlimited will be after the first of the year but we all know how that goes. So what would be a good economical fit for my ride? Right now it has the stock cst abuzz tires on it so anything will probably be better than those and I know cost will go up, im ok with that I just don't know what a good fit would be.
any help is appreciated as always.

Everyone's.. and every area has different types of riding as well as terrain. How about you describe in percentages what you ride in. Let's say.. #1-in flat, loose, wet and muddy(includes snow and plowing) ...then #2- technical such as steep climbing, rocky & off camber....then #3- sport as in speed riding trails and roads. We can come up with a tire and tread design that will...in our opinion..suit your needs best. And you are right about the abuzz tires-they are..not worth having IMO as they failed me three times on my first two rides. Never so happy to get rid of them.

Ok great I would say a mix between 1 and 2 with 3 very little. Or in percent, 1=65%, 2 = 25% and 3 = 10%

Wow that was fun 😁

Then IMO, for you I would look at: Kenda Bearclaw HTR, GBC Grim Reapers, ITP mudlite, ITP Teracross and Maxxis Zilla. Stay no more then one size up from the stocks and the same width...and 6-8 plys. I like a radial on the snow and soft stuff because the contact patch is longer then wide at the correct pressure making it perform, ride and handle noticeably better then a bias ply.

Ok I have it narrowed down. Kenda Bear Claw I found two prices. Keeping with the same size one place was $609.00 front and rear, and the other spot was $579.00
The GBC Grim Reapers I found a place that listed two sizes- the stock 26x9x14,26x11x14 for $600.00 at my door. The other size which if I understand your post I can go 1 size bigger would be 27x9x14,27x11x14 would be $630.00 at my door.
The other tires you listed were either to much $$$ or 6 ply. I think for the extra $60 I am favoring the GBC'S in the 27" size so long as it doesn't mess with the power which I have no idea but I wouldn't think so. There is a RNG Stage 1 clutch kit in it but that shouldn't matter....
what do you think?

Any aftermarket tire will be heavier then what came on it. The abuzz are only a 2 actual ply tire. Any increase in weight means rotational mass is increased which requires more power so..you will feel some loss with any tire you choose. The Reapers are my choice but are also the heaviest of all I believe...especially the 27s..which I have on my Z. I liked them better on my Brute Force because of the weight being centered where in the Z the engine being in the rear it power-slid different..and a bit unpredictable. Still incredible traction everywhere though. They have never not got me through...or out of a situation. In a 27 they have a stiff sidewall so you will want to run 4-6psi. I run 7.5-8.5 on the Z. I really suggest sticking with the 26s though. I loved them on my Brute...and 26 is kinda the standard for serious trail riders.

Yes, the Kenda Bearclaw HTRs are also a great and trusted tire choice. I would absolutely own them.

Ive had REALLY good luck with my Interco sniper 920s on my Cforce 800.
Theyve got about 1600 miles on them and are wearing better than the Abuzz tires did at 1200. (I still have those for backup)
They are well mannered on road and off as well.
Ive got 9-27 14 front and 11-27 14 rear.
they really didnt shift the weight much and little to no noticeable effect on power either.

Welp... pretty fed up with suppliers and merchants that don't update their websites with the stock they have on hand. Apparently gbc doesn't make the grim reaper anymore. I looked at a lot of outlets, even ordered only to find that there aren't any in the size I was looking for. So I just patched the inside of the tire that I had punched a hole in and will wait to see if Maxxis is true to their word about a restock at Parts Unlimited after the first of the year. On another note I took the time while I was smoking a rib roast to patch the tire.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
