So I was hearing a slight noise in the rear end of my z6 tonight and noticed when I'm gear and giving it gas the rear diff moves up and down. Can anyone tell me if this is supposed to happen or not before I tighten it down and brake something

So I was hearing a slight noise in the rear end of my z6 tonight and noticed when I'm gear and giving it gas the rear diff moves up and down. Can anyone tell me if this is supposed to happen or not before I tighten it down and brake something

Both the front differential and the rear gear case are mounted to the frame so neither should physically move. Only the axles as the suspension flexes.

Yep, the dif. is bolted in to the frame. Should be two long through bolts. Pry up on it a little and look to see where it moves. If the bolts are loose just snug them up. If some how you broke one of the mounts you will need to weld it back up.

Thanks everyone that's what I figured and thaught but you never know could be some crazy engineered that way kinda thing that I don't know about so just wanted to make sure before I tighten it down and it torques and snaps diff housing or something crazy like that because that would be my luck

If it is under warranty, you might want to call the dealer just in case.  Let him know about it in case there is a service bull item on it. 

I just got it back from the dealer on Wednesday because the front diff seal was bad and when they tore it apart they ended up having to put a whole new diff and cv axles in it. The axles were on back order they had it over 8 weeks. They did upgrade everything though I just hate to take it back into them  not even a week later. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something cfmoto did for some weird reason

Ethan, are you saying that the dealership had your vehicle for 8 weeks or that the axles are back ordered 8 weeks?

And who knows, maybe one of their shop guys started unbolting the wrong unit. And 8 weeks...for parts or anything is just not acceptable.

Seems people are having issues with seals on diffs. I'll need to. Omit or mine closely.

But thats unbelievable man 8 weeks. I had to wait 2 in a half weeks for a set of break pads and I was all kinds of mad about that.

Both I waited 8 weeks and kept getting told they were on back order I don't blame the shop but I was  livid so you can understand my not wanting to have to take it back in that's a lot of down time. It did save me a lot of money it was all completely free but it was still over 8 weeks they had it and that the axles were on back order

Well got to looking deaper at my rear end slop issue. The front bolt holding rear end in came extremely loose so tightening it up and to tighten the rear bolt I had to make a specialty wrench so that could get into it

Aside from having to cut up a wench, good deal on a pretty easy fix

I'm really glad that's all it was I was not looking forward to having to take it back into the shop again
