Taking the bed off?
« on: August 02, 2024, 12:19:19 PM »
I'm wanting to remove the bed from the 2018 zforce so that i can check things out real good and fix or tighten anything that needs it.
How hard is it to remove the bed?Any special tools needed.

I have not done it but its not just the bed, its all the rear plastics....and I would assume it's pretty involved. But...its just push-pins and lots of bolts...and probably some of the cab plastics as well. If it were mine I would try and work around it.

I tried taking the bed off my 2023 Zforce, even tried following the Service Manual which wasn't much help.  Lot's of metric Allen head bolts, push pins, etc.  Had to remove a lot of the plastic and luckily I got enough of it off that I could get to what I needed, so in the end I never did get the bed removed.  Did manage to screw up a bunch of the push pins though and had to order a bag full of them to get everything put back together.  Also ordered a tool for removing them so they can be reused - should have had that when I started.  Be careful putting the metric bolts back in as well, and keep a record of which came from where as there are a few different sizes used in various places.  Sometimes the plastic doesn't completely align over the bolt holes and requires a bit of a nudge to avoid starting the bolt in a way that cross threads it.

I figured if anyone might have done it and knew about it NMK would
be the go to for it.I have looked things over real good and can already tell
that i'm going to destroy push pins.I looked for the allen bolts and couldn't see
any but i'm sure  they are thier.I will keep an eye on the bolt sizes as i remove them.
The push pins 8 mm i got off temu or wish and they fit good.

There are two large Allen head bolts holding down an inspection plate in the middle of the bed.  There are smaller ones holding down the four cargo tie points in the bed, and then there are a bunch of much smaller ones around the top edges of the bed itself.    Not sure, but there may be some others under the fender flares as well.  I didn't get to all of them since when I removed the right fender flare I was able to get to the rear light wiring which was my goal at the time.

I was able to find my push pins on Amazon where I also found a cheap tool to remove them without destroying them.  Should have done my shopping before my tear down.  LOL

I agree with the video when someone gets ready to tackle it.
Seems like the back of the cab on the inside is part of bed removal but does not
seem to hard.If i decide to take on this project it will take some time from
start to finish.
what i use for a push pin remover is a tack remover mine is an older one with the
wood handle.Great neck tools makes one also.
I tool a dremel and widend the v part to fit the stem of the pin and tape the metal part as to not scar the
plastic.It works good for me.
I was thinking about useing some screw type of pins that might be easier to remove.

Yeah although I use several different push-pin removal tools and one I modified that really works nice on the new type pushpins, I was also thinking about the screw-type pins for the future. They do come in an 8mm as well. I just have several bags of the push-type I haven't used up yet...lol
