Survey: Valve Adjustments and Miles

I know what the manual says ... but just curious as to what your mileage was for checking valves and if they needed to be adjusted.   I know most of you have the 800's, I have the 17' Z500.

On my 800, I checked them at 300 miles and all but one was at it outer limit so I adjusted them. The one that wasn't loose was tight which sometimes indicates a soft seat so I needed to watch that one closely. I then checked them again at 600 miles and although they were still well in range and an adjustment wasn't necessary, I did adjusted them again. The one that was tight was still fine.  I'm a little over 1,000 miles now and don't plan on checking them again until around 1500 miles unless I have reason to.

You should at least check them on or before 500 miles. JMO.

45 views and only one reply, looks like 44 of you need to get your valves adjusted - LOL

FYI on some symptoms that could be related to needing this service ... "If your machine is performing poorly, starts hard, backfires, or has a noisy valve train, it may be time for a valve adjustment. The valves are timed to the piston movement via the timing chain and other components. If your valves are out of adjustment, the motor’s intake stroke, power stroke, or exhaust stroke may stop working correctly."

Yes, I'm right at 500 miles, just did the initial oil/filter change, and am about to tackle the valve adjustment.  Never done one on a twin, so I was a little hesitant.
