Super ATV flip up windshield
« on: June 15, 2017, 12:31:03 PM »
I want to install this windshield on my 2012 Z6 and I need 4 dimensions from someone who has already installed this on their Z8. I requested help with this matter in a different post and thought it would be better if I attached a drawing to my request to simplify things, I don't mind trimming the width of the windshield which I am fairly certain that I will need to do, but I do need these dimensions before I purchase it and pay the additional $100 shipping to Costa Rica. Dimensions 3 & 4 are inside dimensions of the roll cage. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could get these dimensions for me and let me know what they think of it.

Besides being muddy I hope it was fun, I appreciate your help with this and I have enjoyed reading about your modifications and input in regards to helping others solve their issues, mine is in the shop right now but as soon as I get it back I am going to reverse the engine air intake and get rid of some of the heat and noise in the cab, I have hated that vent for 3 years but never thought about reversing it until I saw your post...thanks for that one. I live near the beach where it is always hot and it rains 6 months of the year, that is why I want this windshield so bad, I did order a set of Rodin's doors today which will keep the mud out during the rainy season, between the doors and the windshield things should be almost civilized, at least we never get cold here and there is always a stream, river or waterfalls nearby if things get too hot or muddy.

I checked the part numbers listed at Alpha Sports and they show all Z models using the same part number for the hood 9060-040101 if that is true then the curved bottom contour and width at the bottom of the windshield are exactly the same, maybe I am not being specific enough on my model number but the cages are certainly a different configuration and part number, I have attached a picture of my machine. Because the cages are different I do not know if the width of the Z800 cage at the top of the windshield mounting brackets is the same as mine, what I need to know is the inside dimension of the roll cage at the top of the windshield mounting bracket dimension #3, I also need to know the height from the hood to the top of that mounting bracket dimension #1, this will allow me to measure the inside width of my roll cage and compare it to yours at the same height from the hood. Dimension #2 is the height from the hood to the lower edge of the roof, I want to make sure that my roof isn't lower which could interfere with the window tilting upwards.

OK so...#s 1 and 2 are measured from the plastic and on the front or forward-facing side, #1 is 17.5". #2 is 21.25". #s 3 & 4 are as close as I can measure with a tape on the inside edges of the bar. #3 is 40" and # 4 is slightly under 38"s...say 37& 15/16.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your help it looks as if it will work fine. I took rough measurements the other day and came up 1/2" less in width at the bottom and the top, betting that after checking them again they will match yours, if not the windshield will extend outward 1/4" further on each side of the roll cage which is probably a good thing, and the only modification needed will be elongating the mounting holes in the Lexan inward 1/4" on each side if they aren't elongated already. Now I only need to be patient and wait 4 weeks for it to get here.

Stumbled across your hand brake boot modification today...another thing on my to-do list.

I sure hope someone at CFMOTO is reading the posts on this forum, these small modifications wouldn't cost much to incorporate during production. They should probably be paying you for doing their R&D, or they could at least give you a new ride each year....of course they would need to complete all of your modifications prior to giving it to you, unless you just like filling holes.

Lol..not really on the holes. Most of that can be done with simple rubber inserts or even some small bolt-on plates. One thing I did notice is that there is some pretty good sized gaps on Rodin's doors that dust and water slams in when the conditions are just right. That's next on my "To Do" list but I think that will be an easy one.

I also wanted to say that on the #3 measurement I took it about 1.5"s higher then the top of the mount bracket so it might be about 1/4" less right there.

Checked my measurements again today and your numbers are spot on and match the measurements on my Z6, so it should fit perfectly. It will take a month or so to get it shipped here and, I will post some pictures and report on how easy it was or wasn't to install on my Z6, Super ATV told me it wouldn't fit, I can only assume that they never tried it on a Z6 and are just playing it safe...or I am soon to find out that they are much wiser than "grasshopper", the younger members won't know who grasshopper is but I am certain that a few here will.

You have snitched the pebble from their hand young grasshopper. At worst...its just plastic...and can be adjusted as needed with the right saw and tape.

Exactly, as long as I need to reduce the size....even the old wise master on his black ZForce can not stretch polycarbonate without distorting it.
