Squeak on tires
« on: November 17, 2021, 06:01:59 PM »
Hello. I have 90 miles on my cfmoto 400 and I have been noticing a squeak coming from the tires. The only grease fittings I see are for the suspension. Any thoughts?

Douse the brakes with water and see if it quits for a bit. If so..it's the pads. Check that the slides are working and not seized and use some Brake Quiet when reassembling. If it doesn't quite take a good look at the wheel bearings.

When does it squeak?

When you hit the brakes?

When cruising?

The shock ends that the bolts go through are a two piece affair and often develop a squeak that can be silenced with a little grease or a shot of WD-40. Very common problem.

It usually squeaks driving at low speeds. Never when I hit the brakes. I tried spraying lube all around the tires and suspension but no change. The wheel bearings are sealed and with only 90 miles I would not think it would be them. I will try to spray the pads and see if that works. Thanks for the tips.

You might be able to reproduce by rocking the machine back and forth by hand.

Does it squeak  from a particular corner?  Take the shock bolts out from that corner, remove the rings from the shock ends and grease them, and reassemble.

Does the squeaking stops when you hit the brakes?  If so...what does that tell you?
