speed sensor problems
« on: May 05, 2016, 09:38:50 PM »
Took the machine in for a service and all went well except for the speedometer stopped working correctly.  We it will read speed but not even close to the correct spped.  Took it back to the dealer and he replaced the speed sensor but that did not fix it.  Has anyone had this problem?  The dealer what's me to bring it back so they can do more testing or something.  Not that I need the speedometer when riding in the country but it is helpful in town.  Just afraid it will be in the shop for a while and miss out on good weather for riding.  Hoping it is something simple.  Any help would be great

So far its never been anything else other then the speed sensor when the speedometer has issues. That and the fan switch have been the two most common sensor failures these have had. I'll bet they didn't replace the sensor. Have them tell you where it is. Its on the front output shaft just before the first yoke. If they tell you something else..you will know they didn't. They have to take off the inside plastics to get to it.

I know on other UTV's its pretty easy for them to get switched between KPH and MPH.  Do you think that is what happened?  Normally if a speed sensor goes out it just doesnt work, not just "not read correctly".  Im not saying your wrong, just asking is all.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

My 2014 C800 quad had the same issue. The speed was showing 3 times the real speed. If I was going 10 the speedo was showing 30. Sometimes it wouldn't show speed at all. Dealer replaced the sensor and the speedo, all is good since.

I'll be embarrassed enough to admit that this happened to me on my ATV - I had been fiddling with the instrument cluster after Daylight Saving time adjustment, and set my speedo from MPH to KPH. God, some of the stupid stuff that I do but don't realize ... *shakes head*

Just an update.  Talked to the dealer and then told me were the sensor was and then I look for myself and it has been replaced.  I did check the mph or kph it is still in mph.  The dealer is going to look at it next week so I hope they can get it fixed.  I will post what they find.

I hope so.  Been taking chances riding in town.  Be asked to slow down twice  lol  third time might not be so lucky.   NKM could you tell me what uni air filter you have.  Would like to get me one or two.
Most people have this unifilter in the airbox:

http://www.amazon.com/Uni-Angled-Two-Stage-Filter-UP-6229AST/dp/B000UKI2HS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1462587268&sr=8-2&keywords=UP-6229AST

It's a fine filter and all most really need.

I how ever have this twinAir in the airbox:

http://www.amazon.com/Twin-Air-156052FR-Resistant-Replacement/dp/B004S53IOI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462587877&sr=8-1&keywords=156052FR

Then if you see my writeup in the how-tos, I have ported my intake tube to the outside and put this 6" highflow mushroom filter on it:

http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Purple-Mushroom-Filter-Systems/dp/B010HSOW5I/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1462588385&sr=8-5&keywords=mushroom+air+filter

I then...which was not necessary... replaced the filter in it with the standard two-stage Unifilter material:

http://www.amazon.com/Uni-Filter-BF-6-Foam-Sheet/dp/B00J4Z8GA8/ref=sr_1_sc_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1462588436&sr=8-4-spell&keywords=Unifilter+sheet

And to make it water resistant, I put one of these outerwears funnel prefilters over it:

http://www.amazon.com/Outerwears-20-1029-03-Pre-Filter/dp/B003TTXJ9I/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1462589023&sr=8-5&keywords=Outerwears+funnel

So it looks like this on the outside:

http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/rr196/BFFreak_2008/CFMoto%20ZForce%20800/Zforce%20modifications%20and%20upgrades/Extra%20Air%20Filter/DSC03613%20-%20Copy_zpsipqko2ej.jpg

I know...overkill..right. But zero worries about dust & Dirt...and cleaning the first filter is a lot easier then opening up the box every few trips. Several have done this ...and someone here are about to do it to two machines...:)

Emerson or NMK  you guys might now if this is true or are they just telling me BS?

Love the ma Hine just want it fixed

Well from reading your post you definitely know more the  this guy. Lol.  Anyone with some info on this would be nice.  The deal is a good deal and wants to make it right but I am starting to get frustrated.  Better weather is here and I would like to be riding.
