I was wondering if anybody else here has considered or actually attempted to shorten the shift lever. It is apparent that I am a little large for this UTV (z6) and I'm 6'2" and the shifter is always bumping against the side of my knee cap. If I could shorten the shifter it would solve a comfort issue. Has anybody dissected the shifter? Could this be a relatively easy mod? Thanks for any help.

Anything is possible. To do so and keep the shifter detents, you would have to shorten the shaft and be able to re-thread it for the knob and shorten the internal plastic piece. I had apart to adjust the detents to align with the transmission's detents and it didn't look too tough if you have the stuff to do it.

Just loosen the jam nut and spin the handle off. You will get a better idea.

Yep, just measure how much the rod pokes out before you start. run a die down the shaft to the height you want then cut off. Chase the threads to clean them up. After that just shorten the center rod as needed and round off the end like the old end was.

Well my fix was much easier than I originally thought. I loosened the jam nut, simply turned the shifter knob on quarter turn and tightened the jam nut. The handle no longer pokes me in the leg. I did notice however that I do not need to push the button on the side to shift from high to low. Is that normal?

Because you can..or will..damage the transmission shifting it between High and Low while moving you would think the detents would stop that from accidentally happening...but mine will shift from High into Low without depressing the button but..not back into High. I have to press the button for that. So..maybe take yours one rotation to the loose-side and see if you still can get all the positions using the button. Think I'll do the same. If not..maybe take a little off the center rod

Poor design in my opinion. I've tried to adjust it in many different setting and no matter what, I never need to depress the button to shift from high to low. I will make sure that I stop to shift, but hopefully nobody hits the shifter by accident while I'm driving.
