Shock Question
« on: March 14, 2018, 04:48:58 PM »
Looking to gain some ground clearance for my 600 Snyper. From what I gather my best bet is to upgrade the shocks. Can I run the shocks from an 800 ex ?  Or are they too long?  Does anyone know what the length of my stock shocks is? How long a shock can I go with before I have issues? A buddy has a set of ELKA’s for the rear that are 22 an 1/4 eye to eye would those work in the rear of my machine?
I know a lot of questions… I tried searching but can not find a definitive answer. Any help greatly appreciated

I don't know the answer to most of your questions but, I just walked up to my shop and measured my spare 800EX shock for you.  Eye to eye its 22 and 1/4 inches.  That is on a unladen rear shock off of a 800EX.  Its probably possible to get + or - 2 inches out of it by adjusting the pre-load.  I would imagine that it would put way to much angle on your CV joints for it to work reliably.  You might have some issues with steering alignment too.  Just my .02

I would have posted a picture but, this forum only allows me to post a certain number of pictures.  I am past my limit and I am no longer able to post helpful images.  I should start a "Free Bezerk1 and his Attachments" movement.  That would allow me to continue to help members of this forum.  This whole picture deal takes the wind out of my sails.

And apparently some refuse to use a hosting service...even a free one.

A little background: Jason...and this website.. has exceeded his contract's disk space limits at least three times in the last 18 months which some know, takes this forum off line until a new...and obviously more expensive contract is signed. See, disk space and web hosting isn't free. It wasn't the threads or text that used-up the room, it was the massive size and numbers of uploads of mostly photos. People were uploading 2,3 & 4mb photos. When he started this forum, he had no limits on size or numbers like most other other web sites but he learned the hard way...you have to. He had no choice but to adopt what most others have done many years ago.  Now I for one am glad Jason sees fit to continue this forum. He doesn't have to. He really only has to say.."Na" the next time the limit is exceeded or the contract come to renewal.. and that will be it for cfmoto-forum.com.

And you are right bezerk1, this is a valuable place.. and tool for all CFM owners and all contribute to the knowledge base that helps all of us even the ones just thinking about getting one. That's why we have to work within the system...work with what's available to us. You..me..all of us..and Jason can post as many photos as we want using an image host like Imgur. No limits..no issues..no server disk space issues, no extra cost to Jason. It's what we have. For me- for well over 10 years I paid for a Plus account with Photobucket and they changed..got gready..ended all third party hosting of all free accounts and will end all third part hosting on all paid accounts except the 400-dollar per year one by the end of this year. Bastards. I am terminating my account with them but I had thousands of photos posted over many many forums that will be lost. I fully understand the reluctance of using one of these..but.. it's what we have..it's free...and you only need upload your photo once...so let's use it. Give it a shot.

after reading NMKs post. I took about 2 minutes to click his link, sign up, upload a photo and copy the link and paste it here. Not hard and works better than posting straight pics ever did for me since the site used to post them all upside down and take a minute to upload lol.

Then click on the BBCode like this and paste in your message:

You can have images displayed just like before.

These images are displayed by your browser, not the host server so its not adding to anything.

That's what I was missing, how to have an image appear in the post instead of just a hotlink to it. :) Thx

Not a lot of people have the trail version of the old 600. Probably best if you just went out, jacked the wheel off the ground and took a center to center eye measurement. If you will post it here, then we can sticky-it or something for others. You can probably get away with an inch or so longer for mounting in most cases. The ride?...well that's probably another story.

that was my buddy when we went to Gorham NH. Sorry to hijack the thread here. But I don't think EX shocks will work far too long. I am not 100% sure but I think someone else was talking about it in another thread somewhere. I think the best bet for ground clearance on a trail is going with bigger tires, my $0.02

Look on the how to and the 600 forums. There you will find some good information about guys that have used different types of shocks on their 600's.
