Secondary clutch tool question
« on: May 20, 2025, 09:21:10 PM »
gen2 Cforce 800XC with Cvtech trailblock clutch.

Whats the best tool folks have found for holding the secondary outer sheave when torquing it down?
Yes I use a torque wrench.
the "adjustable" clutch tools (for the secondary) ones Ive been finding are sketchy to use at best and I just tweaked mine changing my helix the other day.
I've got the trailbloc PRIMARY tool and it works great, but doesn't fit the secndaries on these.

Although I made my own for my old Z, I have been told that an adjustable spanner that goes up to 6" with the side pins does work well.

I just broke one of those.
Might have to take a cue and build one thats a bit more robust.

Yeah I couldn't see those little pins holding under what it takes to bust that retainer nut loose. Mine was rusted...from the factory and it has some god-awful thread locker on it. Took a 1000ftlb air impact, heat & PB Blaster and several rounds of choice words to get it off. I didn't use the holes, I went into the webbing and built these solid steel blocks custom ground to fit all the way down and follow the taper.

I'm not quite following what you are trying to achieve, but I did put a clutch kit in my U=force 1000 with this tool I made.

We are just trying to hold the secondary for R&R, the spring compressor or disassembly is another story. These are my home-made spanner wrenches:

Couldn't a person just hold the brake or set the brake to tighten the nut on the secondary while on the machine?

Some of the gears CFM uses are powered or compacted steel and may break under the load. I would not be willing to try. You might try a larger strap wrench around the outside edge of the outer sheave though

I'm pretty sure I can custom make a spanner . .  the compression tool for the secondary helix and spring was pretty easy.
My purchased spanner gave way at the adjusting hinge point . . . fortunately I was able to get it to hold enough to torwue the retainer nut back on.
"Off to the scrap bin Go I" . . .
