I am looking at picking up an EX sometime soon. Just wondering what are things to look for prior to the purchase. Thanks.

Slop in upper, lower, front, and rear A arms.  Sloppy wheel bearings.  I would also pull the airbox lid and check the condition of the air filter. Maybe take a look underneath for frame damage. This is true for any sxs or atv not just a cfmoto.

compression check if you can. check air box for oil puddled in it. check to see if the stock paper filter is still on it, if it's been in dusty riding and stock air filter usually = bad for the engine, you can pop the filter off and run your finger inside there to feel if there is any grit in there, if so its been eating dust

if it has over 1k miles, plan on doing cam chains, tensioners and chain guides.

I do not agree with this statement.  At 1700 miles my chains, tensioners and guides are in excellent shape.  I've see other 800EX engines with no wear on them either.

I agree it's crazy to think it's common for chain tensioner s to go at a 1000 miles that would be about a 100hrs or so.might not be the best thing to tell people cause I would say if that happened to you that's on the rare side mine has 1300 and I drive it had no issues.

I'll just toss-in that there has been a few chain and tensioner issues in young CFM engines however it looks to be more of a parts-quality issue accelerated by overheating due to the thermoswitch failure issues...along with some QC shortcomings at the factory during assembly. A much higher number of CFM engines are getting reasonable millage out of the valve train components especially when temps are controlled and the owners are using proper or better oils with proper maintenance...and the units are being used as designed. :)

I'm a little over 900 and last check all my stuff was still like new in there...knock on wood.

I have 4000 miles on mine and other then an electrical issue that seemed to have been caused by the main glass fuse I have had no issues with mine. I just replaced the belt and it still looked new
