I have a few cot bunks for camping. These are great for tenting it, but as so heavy that I cringe at having to pack them. The heaviest parts are the thick wall poles. I was thinking about drilling some holes to lighten them up. I know the weight rating will go down, but none of us come even close to 500lbs a cot. Just looking for ideas for a point in the right direction.

I'd say if the load on the poles was vertical, then on a round tube you could take quite a but of material out and still be pretty safe...but if the load is horizontal, like cot pols, I would think you couldn't take out as much. Can these be replaced with thin walled aluminum poles?

Each pole is 3pcs. The end poles are necked down to fit the center one. I have two bunks. It will require 8 pole sets. If I could find the right dia tube, I could maybe slide a smaller piece in the id for the joint. I was fixated on the necking I can't do. Don't need them for a bit, so other ideas will help.
