Requested changes, quality concerns
« on: March 28, 2016, 07:41:15 AM »
Looking for input from current owners of all models.

As I've mentioned in a few posts, I have a meeting with some factory higher ups including the quality control guy, and would love to present them with as much as I can.

Here's my list so far:

Airbox - move to area under the hood. Eliminates intake from dusty hot engine bay. All other brands have done this. Tool box under hood is wasted space

Thermoswitches - replacing way too many. Change vendors please.

Speedometers - consistently off by close to 8mph on top end.  Verified by GPS on multiple units.

Driver seats - ZForce needs a mechanical adjustable seat. Removing and adjusting by 4 bolts inconvenient for riders.

LED headlights - update front end, change headlights to LED like RZR & wildcat.

Turn signals - they are already prewired for them, just have them come with. Every other country gets them.

Wet clutches - get rid of them. Your 800 is the only model in your lineup that has them now. From having to rebuild multiple 800 motors I've seen lots of wear on the shoes and Bell housings on units with low miles

Dip stick - the ZForce is VERY difficult to do oil changes on due to the dipstick being in a terrible spot. Even an extension tube to get it close to the opening behind the passenger seat would help greatly.

Stators - have all non-eps units come with the larger stator and have the EPS airing harness. Make an EPS kit available for those who would like it after the fact. This makes for a better customer experience, and reduces parts CFMoto has to carry (two different stators, two different harnesses)

Delphi EFI - drop it. Your 500 and 400 come with the Bosch system. Those system are more reliable and has higher quality parts.

Displacement - you MUST come out with a 1000+ CC engine if you want to continue to compete in the North American market. 800 is small, and you are losing a LOT of sales due to the smaller displacement over the competition. Demand is high.

4-seater/crew - demand is high. Again, losing lots of sales because of the lack of a 4+ person model. All other competing brands have one.

Quality concers - stricter QC inspection through out manufacturing process. Too many cases of lose nuts and bolts during first 100miles of owner USD. Higher quality parts in engine an absolute must. Too many inconsistentcies in parts like connecting rods, pistons, wrist pins. The crank bearings need a major improvement, going to a ball-bearing style would improve reliability.

Anything else needed please comment and let me know. Im sure I'm missing some things, or not aware because I haven't experienced them myself.

Here's my 2 cents:

Airbox - I don't have a problem with its location.  It seals tight.  The filter is a simple round canister with a hose clamp on a round adapter that's simple and reliable.  No complaints by me.  Moving it under the hood will only add weight, expense, and more piping to break.  It will still pull in hot radiator air unless its directed through a hood scoop.  A hood scoop will pull in mud and water.

Dip Stick - An extension tube would be perfect.

Displacement - I'd buy a 1000 after my 800 wears out or gets sold.

I can think of only a few more things to add to your list.
1. Better a-arm bushings
2. Redesign the foot feed with better ergonomics and a stronger peddle spring.
3. The roll cage needs redesigned to be lower-like the one in Mexico or something along those lines.
4. Redesign the brake system or make adjustments. Most are not easy top stop. May be a master/slave ratio issue. And the pads need to last longer.
5. Along with the wet clutch delete, make necessary modifications to case to accept a spin-on filter.
6. More sound deadening between the cab and engine compartment
7. And yes, more attention to QC.

For the ZForce 800 (and all ZForce models actually)

1)  Move the airbox location up on the bed/cab firewall where it's accessible when pulling the bed engine cover.  Polaris got this right on the RZR as well as making it a no-tool access.  This also makes snorkeling a breeze if that's something a person would want to do.

2)  I second NM.  Go to a spin-on oil filter in addition to making the fill location more accessible.

3)  To expand on your seating proposal - make the seat positioning less upright and more "in the machine" as opposed to "on the machine".  Increase the recline angle and make at least the driver seat adjustable without tools.

4)  I agree that the toolbox under the hood is a waste.  Make this area more accessible for cleaning the radiator and other parts.  It'd also be a good place for an accessory terminal for adding the goodies.

Keep the wet clutch, just beef it up. It's one of the reasons I picked the Z8 over Polaris or Arctic Cat.
All maintenance is a real pain. Every thing should be easier to get to.
X3 on spin on oil filter.
I do use the tool box under the hood for my funnel to keep it cleaner.
The ergos could be better. The seats need more cushioning.
I haven't heard much about diffs breaking, except in racing conditions, but they do look a little too small. They should be bigger.

Canada's CMI offers that warranty, not CFMoto. Its a 3rd party extended warranty offered through CMI that they build into the retail price.

.

CFMoto offers higher quality sintered brake pads as a replacement option.

Go with an established spring and shock manufacture like all the other brands have. These CFMoto shocks have been trouble for a lot of us since jump street.

I would LOVE to see them do a special edition unit, and have FOX be the featured shock brand for it. Also do something like a different style/brand tire to go with it.

Would love them to see them do an Orange/Pearl White unit. Either do white or orange wheels. Fox Shocks. Different style CST tire (dont expect a different brand there due to volume discount). Upgraded LED headlights. Harness instead of seat belts (they already have them, just not standard in this country).

This is all I want - Add those oh so choice Elka shocks and I am selling all my baseball cards and comic books I've been hoarding for 30+ years. Would make my wife VERY happy to reclaim that corner of the garage, only to have this beast fill up that space once it gets delivered   :D

I am of the opinion that if something isn't useful to me, sell it and get something that is. Like shocks.
