I have 200kms on my 2018 ZForce 500 and I want to get an early oil change in. I have an OEM filter. I believe the Rotella T6 should work well also, which is what I use in my KLR 650. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been unable to find any resources on an oil change. If anyone has any links that could help, it would be appreciated.

I'd mainly like to know things I should be paying special attention to. If there are o-rings/seals/washers that I actually need to replace or just inspect and reuse. Any tips and tricks that could help. I'd like to do frequent oil changes and don't want to be left waiting for parts while the machine is down, especially not for a damn o-ring or something simple!

Thanks in advance!

I use T6 in my engines. Parts always look very good when doing work on them. My rotax engines use the same set up and I don't use a new o ring if it still looks good. Same for the drain washer. Just wipe them down. Others might disagree, but never had a leak.

I also use T6 though your mileage is a little low to start using synthetic unless it has a good amount of hours on it. You might want to wait until the next oil change. I switched to synthetic at around 200 miles but it was 200 miles of very slow riding so it had enough hours on it I feel it was broken in well enough. I haven't had to replace anything other than the filter yet, and have changed the oil twice.

Shop manual in the ZF 500 section, find 08.2.8 & it will give you some tips.

Like others I don't swap the O'ring unless it has a problem. The sealing washer on the drain plug I do change, if it leaks with new oil  :(

I saw that the drain washer is soft enough that it gets a 'land' from compression by the plug's flare. If it should not line up exactly the same way it came off, when replaced, it has a chance to weep. I lay a piece of sandpaper on the bench and do circles with the reformed side of the washer until it's flat again. Well, I used to before I got a copper flat washer kit that has lots of the size needed. :)

Any tips on even accessing the damn oil filter? It's way tighter than I expected under there lol. Also what is under the plastic cover right beside the oil filter cover (also 3 bolts)?

Edit - Nevermind, just needed a smaller wrench and some bloody knuckles lol.
