Reclocking noob idiot mistake!
« on: August 25, 2021, 11:50:13 AM »
Ok, so I reclcoked my zforce500 to C1.  In order to put the key in I had to compress the spring so tight that it took two guys to get it to the right spot and my wife put the key in for us.  What I failed to do after that is any additional clocking of the helix.  I didn't look to see where they were coming down on the black nylon ramps at all.  I installed everything and took it for a spin and everything seams fine, smoother clutch engagement, etc.  Should I bother with opening it back up to make sure the helix is sitting on the black nylon bumpers?  Is this now a ticking time bomb or run it since it seams to be shifting fine?  I'm sorry for all the noob posts, I am definitely learning a bunch on these machines!  Feel like I really Sh$% the bed one this one!

If the helix ramps are not on the pads, it is not clocked at all...ie it has NO preload. That's lower then B1...and it's using the compression resistance of the spring, which is was not designed for..rather then the torsional resistance (twisting) to provide the preload.. so yes, it needs to be correct to function correctly. Otherwise damage will occur as well as belt slippage...and it's loss.

Thanks so much for all your help.  Knowing that experts are a click away gives me the confidence to do this stuff!  Last time it took me a whole day to take it all apart and put it back together.  This time around 1.5hr tops!  And it was clocked incorrectly.  Now it runs REALLY good!  Thanks sooo much!  Now I feel better about hitting the trails again.

I cut a little section of plastic out behind the seat so I dont have to take any of the cab plastics off.  Seen redneck garage do it and seamed like a worthy project.  Going to a friend's to test out and break in the new belt before our next trip in a few weeks.
