Rear brake pad replacement
« on: October 08, 2016, 08:31:12 PM »
Have a 2015 uforce 800. Trying to change the rear brake pads . How do I compress the piston in the calliper that has integral park brakes ? The maint manual that I downloaded from this site doesn't show how to do this.

I haven't taken these apart yet but since nobody has answered I will tell you what I would try. If they don't compress just by the regular squeeze, they may be the type you have to turn in. those types usually have a couple notches on the piston that a tool can grab to turn in. I could be absolutely wrong, buts that's the only two types of caliper pistons I've seen. Again I haven't looked at these first hand yet. Hope it helps

Yeah I can't say because I just don't know but I do know that on some other brands that have the parking brake built into the caliper, it has no association with the hydraulic part or side of the operation. So, in those cases or any that the piston won't retract any farther it is usually because of one of these reasons:
1. It is in fact already completely retracted.
2. The master cylinder isn't allowing fluid to return to the reservoir, probably because the rod is adjusted too tightly and won't let the piston return completely.
3. There is either dirt in the system or the piston is jammed from not being compressed straight and evenly.

Also some aftermarket pads have the wrong thickness of material for these and need to be cut down.

You should remove the cap on the master cylinder. Then with a C-Clamp, carefully compress the piston back in. If it wont, completely remove the caliper from the machine and try again. If it still wont, your caliper is no good.

I did my rear pads and it was just a simple compress it like a normal caliper if i remember right.
