Push pin retainers!!!
« on: March 17, 2023, 01:48:18 PM »
I have been turning wrenches since early high school and I am in my 50’s, and I have never ever ever dealt with push pin retainers as hateful as these on a CFMoto. For Gods sake, they rarely come out easy and are nearly as  mean going back in. If I didn’t know better I’d swear CF put some kind of retaining compound on them but I haven’t seen any evidence beyond the broken ones, busted knuckles, and the occasional ugly words flying about!

I have several types of pushpin removal tools but I tend to use these more often then the others.

You can even get them a little cheaper at Harbor Freight.

I also found these to be a good replacement for the OE pins..cause you will usually waste them. The OEs are 7.5mm and these are 8mm so they do fit a little tighter..but that's OK.

I tried to take them out of the center console to run wire. They wouldn't budge

I use a special set of pliers that harbor freight uses to grab the head of the push rivet. Seems to work much better than trying to pry it up with something flat.

One thing I do is I give them a couple taps with a small hammer and then give them a quick shot of PB Blaster (or whatever penetrant you prefer) and they come out great.  My thinking is the hammer taps knocks the dust out that gets built up in there and the penetrant lubes them up.  Sounds dumb but works for me every time.
