800 or 800EX?

Hey Folks,
I have money down at a dealer for (2) 800EX's, and trying to sell our 600. I'd like to get some advice for some that would know better than me...

Where I am, we don't have many trails, as in ATV trails, most of the riding here (and there is a LOT) is on the National Forest Service roads, (86% of my State is NFS or BLM Land). I've ridden the EX & the 800 & the EX seems like it's a lot more stable, the salesman told me that it rides a lot better so you don't get as bounced around as you do in the 800. The EX is more money, too, so here's the question; EX or 800? The forest service roads we'd be driving on aren't ones you can fly on, you go 10-30 MPH generally, there are cliffs that you really don't want to go down.

Best-
Chris

I love my 800EX. Maybe biased because I haven't drove the trail model.  I liked the wider stance and fender flares. So I think it comes down to where you ride most. If you have smaller trails then I'd say go with the trail model. If you don't have the trail restrictions I'd be swayed to the EX model.
NMK would be great to ask. As well as emersonsc and Kibuks as they are dealers and have experience with both.

I got mine because I needed to use it on 50" wide restricted trails.. sometimes.. and it had to fit in my truck. If that had not been the case, hands-down I would have got the EX. MUCH better suspension and stability over the trail version. I have now even added 1.5" spacers to mine and built ramps in the truck to help get around the fender wells...yeah, that's how much I want a little extra width. DO the EXs IMO!  :)

I had the EX and now have the "S" model RZR (also 60" wide).  The added suspension travel makes the ride a huge improvement over the 50" RZR models I've been in (on both the EX and my S).  If you can afford it and have the means to transport it - go for the EX.  There are more accessories developed/developing for the EX from what I've seen as well.

I've got the trail 53" model and have been very happy. Again some areas are width prohibited so the trail was the one for me. Have enjoyed it very much.

Yeah I have no complaint about my 53 other then the same for everybody's 50" or trail version. It isn't just CFMoto.

Thanks for the replies, to be honest, I just don't see myself or us using the ATV made trails very much, so it looks like the EX is the one. Now, I need to sell the 600....

As a followup; we got the EX's, and I'm really glad we did, for the ride, the stability, and I just feel a lot more comfortable sliding them around corners on loose gravel than with the Trail model.

Thanks for a followup !! I hate it when an OP posts a thread like yours but never returns to provide his final choice. It's very important to give your reasons for or against so that the next guy facing this decision has information for or against either model.

I'm currently shopping for one, with the same decision causing me to lose sleep over it. On one hand, I ride with family who both own 50" models, a 500 Pioneer and a Rzr 900 Trail. To me, it was an easy decision - I want to get the 53" so I can go where they go. But over my test ride of the 53" on Saturday, I felt it was a stiffer ride than I expected. I guarantee I wouldn't say the same thing about the EX, so I'm now going to test ride one of those next week. I really like the looks of the EX, and if I DID buy the 53", I'd be putting the EX fenders on it soon after I buy it.

Been there...done that. Expensive mistake...at least for me it was. Looks goofy and always getting caught on stuff. Ended up making my own that fit. Here's a walk-a-round with the EX fenders on a 53:

Huh, I even looked at that thread and for whatever reason I thought you had better luck with it than you did. Dealer even commented that he had a customer who was immaculate in cleaning his z800, and after its first ride, he was right back in the shop buying the EX fenders for his ride. I understand that the z6 fenders fit as  well, but they don't look as streamlined as the EX.

If I look at where I ride, about 75% of the spots allow a 60" (SSRT, AOAA) and the others (Bloody Skillet, Whiskey Springs and Michaux, which comprise about 25% of my rides) are not a good fit for a 60". Note that they allow a 58" Class 2 weighing less than 1,200 lbs. I can personally attest to several spots on any of those last 3 trails that I will hit a body panel and not be able to follow the 50's in my group. I hate to be >that guy< that causes a complete stop to a days ride simply because I can't fit. I just want a smoother ride than what the 53" provides as it is.

No question that the EX fenders keep the ..stuff.. down and off the machine. Just not my cup of tea and they are a pain in the tight spots. Get the EX if you can because all 50" have really short a-arms and that kills the ride. I have mine OK now with adjustments in shocks, extra weight and wheel spacers but nothing beats travel....and width for stability.

I can't tell you guys how pleased I am with the EX's, I know some of the corners I go around now; if I was in the trail model I'd be on 2 wheels, but the EX is just stable. Smooth ride, comfortable; too.
