Polycarbonate Windshield treatment for Rain Repellent
« on: February 17, 2019, 11:57:42 AM »
I picked up Super ATV's flip-up windshield for my machine awhile back. Been considering using Rainx for plastic windshields on it.

Any one out there used Rainx before or any other similar products on their plastic windshields, good/bad results with it?

Good to see life coming back to the forum.

I have used regular Rainx on my 1/2 windshield but..I was told that how Rainx works is that it partly fills the imperfections in the surface of glass making it smoother and leaves a surfacing that repeals water. On plastic there isn't those imperfections and most of what you apply comes right back off. But..if they have a product just for plastic...it should stay on better. Can't hurt to try it..just remember to clean it well first and make sure there isn't anything on your rags that can hurt the plastic. My flip is still almost perfect after several years of just taking care of it. The hard surfacing is pretty good but it would be nice if water and watery-mud would beed-up and roll off better. Let us know how it works-out. :)

I found that Plexus works well on my flip up windshield + full face auto tint helmet shield ,helmet etc.
My bud had to cut a custom windshield from (non hard coated poly) for his Can am Mav because he changed the roll cage.
I noticed how bad it got, scratched ,yellowish, looked like he was washing with steel wool and comet!, yeah it was bad....
Plexus brought it back 90%+ filled most of the scratches ,clear!
That was hand buff with a soft rag!

I've tried it and had no luck with Rain-X.  Works great on the car, but not on the UTV windshield.  Someone recommended a paste wax, and I think I tried it and it didn't do much, either.  I believe Rain-X makes a product for plastic.

I picked up a bottle of Rainx for polycarbonate windshields. It is still pretty cold here so it will be another month or two  before I can give it a try. I will let you know how it works out and if it performs like they say.

(Rain‑X® Plastic Water Repellent provides a superior water beading coating on various plastics including Lexan®, Plexiglas®, Perspex®, Lucite®, Acrylics and Polycarbonate. Watch water bead up and roll away on motorcycle windscreens, goggles, visors and boat windshields for improved visibility!)
