Picked up my new machine yesterday
« on: December 07, 2021, 05:08:33 AM »
My wife and I decided to pass other 4 wheelers to the kids and gone the side by side world. Picked up my new 800EX last night. Can’t wait to start the break in on it.

Got my windshield on tonight. Checked all fluids and adjusted the seats. I had to turn the passenger seat belt around because it was installed backwards and added abut 6-8 oz of 80w90 to bring the rear diff up to the full port. Other than that it seems to be ready to go.

Oh..shouldn't have filled the diff to the port. That's too much. It will get slung out the vent. We all learned that just recently. Only put in what the book says...and maybe an extra 1/2 Oz.. maybe...but no more. The Chinese don't think the same as we do on fill ports.

So I called CFMOTO this morning because in my owner’s manual it says fill to the bottom of the fill port but lists 400mil or .4 liters. I wanted a conformation on what amount really need to go in there. They said to put 400mil in the rear and 330mil in the front and do not fill until it comes out. I guess my machine with 3 miles is getting a diff fluid change.

Being full to the port has only been a problem when they get hot or run for a while at higher speeds like on roads. I still have not dropped mine but plan to on the next change. I think if it were me...I would run it for the break-in then change it with the right amount. Besides, during break-in you will be going half-throttle for a while anyway. Just thinking out loud. :) I've run mine 2000 miles overfilled and all it's done is spit some out the vent tube when haul'n-azz down fire roads. No seal issues or anything.

What is the actual oil fill capacity on the 800 with a filter change? My other two machines take about a half quart less than the owners manual says. I%u2019ve seen 3.06 and 2.56 and 3.5 quarts listed online. Also, what about tire pressure? I have it set to 10 in the front and 14 in the rear like it calls for. It still feels overinflated to me.

At least engine oil has a dip stick...and it's checked with it NOT screwed in. As for tire pressure..yeah that's overfilled. Not less then 6psi and most don't go over 9psi. On average trails I run 7 in front and 7.5 in the rear. On rough rocky trails where tire pinch or rim damage may be a problem I run a pound more. That's it. Now I'm running 27" 8-ply radials so on the stock 2-ply dias tires might want a hair more for safety but not over 9.5...IMO :)
