Overheating
« on: March 27, 2016, 11:47:42 AM »
So had the Z800 out driving up a small stream bed and it went to 5 bars on the temp. Fan DID kick on but was dripping antifreeze from the fill bottle cap. When we got out of it back to open ground ran it like hell and didn't get over 3 bars.  WTH?!?  Anyone??

Might check to make sure it is full to the top with no air gap, also that all the cores are all open to get full air flow. These get blocked easy. Check the oil cooler too. From cold, run it with the radiator cap off until the fan comes on to ensure it is full..fill as needed during warm-up.

Filled it up. Hosed out the fins. Going to test it out now.
Hoping it was just a fluke stuck thermostat or something.

Double-check that your radiator is clean.  Take a garden hose - NOT A PRESSURE WASHER or you'll run the risk of bending the fins - and spray out the radiator until the water runs clear.  When you think you're done do it again for good measure.

I had a very similar issue with my RZR.  The machine was spotless and I had detailed it one weekend and took it out shortly after that just for a cruise down River Road.  It overheated and went into limp mode and was shutting off.  The coolant was overflowing it was so hot.  I got towed back home thinking the water pump had went bad.  So then we went and started to spray the radiator and sure enough it was caked full.  I bled and changed the remaining coolant and problem solved.

Not sure what happened. Ran it today and went back and forth between 4 and 3 bars kept its temp pretty good.  Brought a gallon of water with me just in case. But it preformed very well.
Thanks NMKawierider and Jason, did BOTH suggestions.

Overheating again. Fan is coming on intermittently. Not sure if it's a thermoswitch or loose wiring. In any case taking it back to the dealer. And they are going to fix it.  Dealer even told me about a guy that obviously abused his and sunk it under water and cracked the block and cfmoto was replacing the parts. Have to say. This company IS doing everything they can to keep their customers happy. IMO that sometimes means more than the price when considering buying.

Probably another bad fan switch. Makes me want to rig a manual bypass just in case.

Funny you say that. I told my wife the same thing. So if I see it 4 bars or more I can turn it on. Or if I know I'll be creeping in 4WD for any lengthy amount then I can leave it run.

You know..it's easy enough to do..and it might be a good safety net for the engine. After all..Heat kills engines!

One of the first mods I do on most of my machines. Install a manual fan switch. I never trust thermoswitches.

Here is a video I made a year or so ago.  Might be worth looking into cleaning out your radiator this way because its REALLY hard to get them clean any other way.

I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

Fixed but rear shocks are coming in. So no need to pick it up just to take it back when they come in.
