Overheating issue
« on: June 02, 2024, 05:58:46 AM »
I have a 2017 cforce 500HO. My issue is that after roughly 20 minutes of riding the machine overheats and the red light of death comes on. The fan kicks on at the third bar of the gauge.   I have removed the radiator cap and watched the antifreeze circulate, both upper and lower hoses get hot so it appears the water pump is working as is the thermostat. The radiator is clean. I’m stumped.
Also has anyone had the issue of power remaining on after the key is off? This happens randomly, the information on the instrument cluster can still be seen in the background yet the cluster isn’t lit. On several occasions I have turned the machine off, no background information on, only to come back later to see faint background info on in the cluster and battery almost dead.

Get one of those IR temp guns and when hot take a reading between the upper and lower radiator hoses. A normal readings would be the upper hose at or around 208-213F and the lower around 170. If it is truly over heating the upper will be more like 220+. Indications are that the thermostat is stuck partly open or mostly closed so before pulling it I would first ensure the radiator is full..as in no air gap when at full normal temperature and that the fan does run at full RPM. Has anyone changed the coolant recently? If so consider an air charge is stuck in the head.

I use one of these temp guns. Cheap and quick.

My temperature sensor went bad (and the one they replaced it with was defective from the start).
It would sometimes turn the fan on at start-up even on a cold day, and might turn it off when the machine was running hot.
Not sure if this fits your issue but just thought I'd let you know.
