Spoke with the tech, he explained that it appears the previous owner had added straight water to the radiator and it froze!  So it was an ice blockage, this concerned me but he says it did not get into the motor line froze so it did not due any serious damage, did pop an o ring but tech says it is good to go. New o ring and fresh coolant.  I got lucky! Damn cold weather here in Vermont!

Like Dexcool. Awful stuff.

Well tech was wrong, it looks like a piece of ice may have worked its way to the water pump, atleast something froze in the water pump housing, snapped the shaft inside the motor....... motor needs to come out cases need to be split.  Estimate to fix was insane.... dealer offered me a good deal on a new 2018 orange 1000. So I am now the proud owner of a new Zforce 1000.  Yup cost me a lot more then fixing the 600 .......

Well..I guess..consider it an insane upgrade...lol. I can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to put straight water in one of these...in cold weather..and not get antifreeze in it right a way. Oh well, it's someone else's problem now. Congrats on the new 1000. :)

Yup not sure why anyone would do that. The guy definitely got me. Motor sounded great only had a 1000 miles, was clean as all get out, and I checked the machine out real good before I bought it, maybe I should have let it run longer! Felt stupid, but it all worked out in long run.

The dealer gave me a good deal. 14.3 out the door. Got a decent price for my Snyper 600 as well.

Had a similar situation at work with bug remover windshield washer fluid. Contacted the distributor and was told that they used a different vendor and they used a different anti coagulant that was causing it to separate and "gel"
May be the same thing happening to the older antifreeze. Ended up using pine sol to cut through the clog and flush the lines. NOTE: I DO NOT recommend using Pine Sol for your engine! (Just wanted to throw that in there, lol.)

What is this overheating and changing anti freeze? I just bought new Z force 800, should I be flushing it out?

No need for 2016s and newer but there is some added benefit to having higher quality coolant in it as it also has more water pump lubricant as well as other anti-corrosive additives. Changing mine in my 2015 also stopped the pump's seal leaking.

Had my first issue with my Zforce 800 today. I left my nephews girlfriend drive it around the yard a little bit and then she parked it. she didn't ride it hard just rode it easy around the yard. then it started leaking antifreeze. I know Clark said about the thermoswitch but I've been keeping an eye on the temp gauge since I bought it never had an issue so i thought maybe this issue had been fixed for 2017. I turned the key on and the temp gauge was flashing full hot. Fan wasn't kicking in. I started it up and watched the temp gauge go up a notch never leaked any antifreeze so I'm not sure if it just got hot and came out the over flow or not. Overflow is almost empty. Rode around the yard slowly keeping an eye on it. Temp gauge goes up and fan doesn't kick in. So I don't think any damage has occurred other than the switch not kicking the fan in. My question is, should I just take it to the dealership and pretend I didn't know about the thermoswitch issue and see what they will do? I have no clue how to wire a switch to it and I would rather let professionals do the work unless it's going to cost me a lot then I might tackle it myself.

Oh my Zforce has just over 540 miles on it.

Yeah just take it in and say the temp gauge goes up but the fan doesn't come on. They will replace the thermo switch and... if overheating hasn't damaged it you should be OK. I do have a how to on the fan switch bypass in the How To section. It's easy... and is a good safety precaution.  Also, if the recovery tank is empty, you have been loosing coolant for a while and if it gets too low in the radiator, the switch will be exposed to air and won't work. Keep it and the radiator full. Be sure to tell the dealer it leaks coolant. Tell them it's by the engine somewhere. They should ne aware of the seal problem.

i, have overheating prob. No fan working. By all i have read it is the switch. I know it is on the "passenger side 3"s below hose. Have not been able to locate it on my cf400s. Any video clips to show this idjit where it is. First atv

Ok exhaust  tips not overly black around the end, oil not milky, did not pull plug yet. Does not smoke any, motor runs really well, nice quiet and smooth.  I really hope it isn’t anything too major.  I appreciate the help guys, hoping that there is just air in the system, I did change the thermoswitch today, so it may have been faulty for awhile. Again thanks for the info

It will be the only thing on the radiator that has wires going to it. Also the service manual may be of help.
