Oil pressure warning light
« on: August 10, 2015, 09:53:09 PM »
I was out on a killer ride Saturday night.  On my way back to the shop I noticed the oil pressure warning light flashing.  I immediately shut the engine down.  Upon checking the oil, it was full on the dipstick.  A visual inspection did not reveal any leaks.  There were no ticks or knocks from the engine with no indication of low oil pressure.  I had my parents meet me on a nearby trail with oil and a funnel just in case.  I rode 15 miles to my shop with no issues other than the flashing oil pressure light.  The next day I was thinking about what was going on and it kind of bothered me a little bit.  I looked over the service manual and found no helpful information.  I then looked through the owners manual and found my answer.  The CFMoto has 2 oil lights on the dash.  The light that I have flashing is the oil change reminder.  It is the same symbol that indicates low oil pressure in a car.  It kind of resembles an oil can.  It comes on automatically around 500 miles, I think.  There is also a low oil pressure light.  It looks like a crankcase with 2 arrows pointing toward it.  This light only comes on when the ECU goes through startup and if you lose oil pressure.  Thankfully this light did not come on.  Just be aware that there are 2 lights.  It caused me a lot of unnecessary worry.  There are some vague instructions in the owners manual on how to reset it.

I did happen to notice that in the owners manual when I went through it, so I dog earred that page as I knew I was going to need it sooner or later. I think it read that a new vehicle comes on at 300 (s)miles and then after the first oil every 3000!

Since the owners manual reset of the light is vague, can someone post the procedure.  Mine should be coming on soon, but I already changed the engine oil and diff fluid.

Were you successful in resetting yours? I couldnt figure out how to do it. Ours has been on for a couple hundred miles and its bothering me to no end, plus i'd love to know how to let my customers know.

Holding down both buttons on the console will reset it.  It put it into some kind of diagnostic mode.

I was on a ride today in Northern Michigan and the oil change light starting blinking. i had no idea what it was at the time. I thought it was the oil pressure light. Anyway, I shut the bike off, checked the oil level and all was good. I walked about a mile or two to get the weakest internet signal ever on my phone and immediately found your post. Thank you so much!  I'm on vacation here from VA and thought my trip was over.
In the end, it makes sense. I had 473 miles on the odometer when it started. I changed the oil back at 250. Anyway, thanks again for posting.

Ok this is what I kinda figured out on my own on doing the oil reset your guys input is welcomed cuz I also have a few questions ? Ok to rest you turn off the key hold down the 2 buttons and miles will appear on the screen now here is we're i get a little confused I "think" you set the miles for the miles you should be at for your next oil change example if u have 300 miles and you do a oil change every 300 you would set the reset to 600 ? At least that's what I been doing at every oil change well only one so far hope this clears some questions up or if I'm doing it wrong someone please correct me thanks guys.....

I'm not sure there is a provision to change the intervals.  I was only able to turn off the reminder light.  The display did appear to go into some diagnostic mode.  I wasn't able to do anything useful with the console buttons.

Out on a nice ride on Sunday and the Oil Pressure light began to flash. It flashed while we were stopped and stopped flashing once we were moving again. Got back to the truck and it did not flash again. Checked oil level and it looks good. Not sure what is going on here. Machine has about 130 miles on it.
