I would say that if Castrol 10/40 full synthetic actually says on the bottle Good For or OK to use with wet clutches, then they have made some adjustment in the formula and can be used and trusted. I would like to run a synthetic but I won't with any friction-related device unless it says on the packaging it's OK. I'm only on my first oil change so I have a little time left to decide. I may go one more on conventional.

According to Dave Danielson, who is the National Service Manager and head of training for CFMoto, he highly recommends AVOIDING full synthetic because these engines were NOT designed to run on full synthetic and that they had issues with test units that ran full synthetic.

But I'm just a dealer, what do I know ;-)

Remember the other day when I was looking around the shop for the oil I used on my first oil change and forgot what it was? This was it in the 10/40:

A lot of overthinking here.  Dump your favorite brand it and run it.  Oil and filter opinions are like assholes.......you know the rest.  I'm sure most oil is made by 2 or 3 refiners.  Just like your filter is made by 2 or 3 manufacturers.  The oil and filter argument is what internet forums are made of.  There is no wrong answer.  Except Quaker State.  Avoid Quaker State.  Seriously.  I've seen what it does to an engine.

Want to start a hot tread, Bring up oil. There is a ton of info out there on what oils are ok with a wet clutch including some syns. Some makers put modifiers in there product that is great for your car but not so much for your toys. If it has energy conserving in the round mark on the back of the bottle, don't use it. The JASO spec has all sorts of different letters after the "-". They mean different things but the -MA is ok for wet clutches.  Now if CFMOTO has tried a JASO-MA full syn oil and they had other engine issues outside of the wet clutch than I would take heed of the no syn advise and not run it.

I'm not trying to stir the pot here but did the rep give the issues they had with oil? Here is a little info I found on oil specs. If someone is interested.

Just to let you know....I had my first oil and filter change done by a CF Moto dealer. He put in a oil filter for the Can Am 800. I questioned him and he told me it was the same filter! Go figure. I bought another one from him for the second oil change before it goes to bed for the winter.

I also crossed the part numbers and yep they are the same. Can am 400 uses it too. Wonder if the new 500 and 400 cfmoto engines are also the same.

The 800 and 500HO motor use the same filter.

They use the same filter as the CanAm 400,800, & 1000.
