oil filter Part #s for CF800
« on: October 06, 2015, 02:03:44 PM »
I was looking for an option to source oil filters locally, (or nearby).  I have the factory part# and a little more info that I would like to confirm.

Is the K&N   KN-152 a good replacement for the 800cc motor?  Its starting to look like this is a common filter, but would like know what the comparable part#s are.

I like Wix filters, so I was hoping to find the cross-application so I could look that up and get a couple to keep on hand.

Quote
The factory part # on the oil filter is 0800-011300-0004

I think Hi-Flo makes a replacement, but I don't know what their part number is.

K&N KN152
HiFlo HF152

I refuse to use K&N filters after what happened to my machine, but yes the 152 will work. There are several threads giving part numbers that will work.

How many miles/km at your first oil change?

I was also wondering about possibly using synthetic oil on the 800.  Not sure if it will work ok with the wet clutch.

I do believe that CFMOTO oil is full synthetic. At least it is in Canada anyway?

Oil is one of the subjects that gets beat to death. The yamaha rhino uses the same kind of wet clutch setup. If you want lots of reading on it, check there forum. In my Cfmoto, I used conventional oil for the first two changes than go to synthetic Rotella T6 after that.

What viscosity Rotella T6 are you using?

If I'm not mistaken it's 5w-40. The blueish jug. Shell runs a rebate program almost every fall. I pick up oil for my rides at that time. Makes it the same price as reg oil.

NO NO NO NO

I CANT STRESS NO ENOUGH!!!

These engines were NOT designed for full synthetic. Wet clutches are NOT DESIGNED for full synthetic! Using a full synthetic will cause your wet clutch to slip!!!

We had an engineer come in some weeks ago when those three engines failed on us and that was one of the first questions we asked: What oil to use?

We were told to either use a good 10w40 conventional or semi-syn wet clutch oil, or use (because its whats recommended in the owners manual) a premium 15w40. We switched out units over to Shell Rotella 15w40. It has the MUCH needed anti-wear additives that these engines need. These engines DO NO utilize rollerbearings on the crank and cam shaft.

Full synthetic is a waste of money on these engines. They arent race engines. They are designed for it. Full synthetic is NOT recommended for use in wet-clutch applications.

So emersonsc, you are saying to use Rotella in the white jug, not blue jug, is this correct?

I use the white jug. I drove truck for many years, and come from a family of truckers, so I trust that oil. I've seen engines run over a million miles using that oil. If its good for heavy duty diesel engines, its more that good for these

Rotella T6 5w-40 now has a JASO-MA rating. Wet clutch approved. The white jug is fine too and I can't argue against using it.

Then someone has to talk to the dealerships about the dam oil issue no shitting u guys I just left the dealership here in alb New Mexico were I bought my cf and I think they are the only cf Moto dealer in New Mexico? And I spoke to the service and parts manager about this issue I went in for a oil filter and they said that as long as the oil was for "motorcycle" it should not matter I even pulled up this forum and showed them all the posts and shit about oil they said they sale full synthetic oil for the zforce all the time there only issue was that if u use that oil u stick with it? they also should me a bottle of castrol 1040w full synthetic and it did read on the bottle "good for wet clutch" I don't know but I did say my zforce is under warranty and if I blow the engine just know you guys are fixing it they said they would stand to what they said.... I don't know I guess this is one of them subjects or maybe these fools down here in the sw don't know ?

I would say that if Castrol 10/40 full synthetic actually says on the bottle Good For or OK to use with wet clutches, then they have made some adjustment in the formula and can be used and trusted. I would like to run a synthetic but I won't with any friction-related device unless it says on the packaging it's OK. I'm only on my first oil change so I have a little time left to decide. I may go one more on conventional.
