New shoes recommendation?
« on: February 03, 2023, 01:49:53 PM »
Considering new tires for my zforce500.  I just had a clutch kit installed (stingray mods) with a big tire helix and 10 gram weights.  I can't speak to that mod yet because I took it for one ride around the sub division and decided to get an ecu flash so my ecu is out to Ray Parker for a tune.  I did notice really smooth clutch engagement, no jerkiness, and a higher rev prolly due to those light weights.  I put a new oem belt on at the time so I didn't wanna push it for the first few miles.

Anyhow, back to the tires.  I'd like to use oem rims, and either go square and buy oem front rims to use on the rear, or keep all 4 rims as is.  Considering 27's and 28's as I don't wanna lose much power.  I do trail rides mostly, including steep hills and some rocks (no mud).  There is a lot of sand where I ride (Michigan Trails).  I know the lil guy doesn't make much power and I don't want to rob any more than I have to, but I'd like a little more ground clearance and maybe a plusher ride.  1.5" spacers and elka stage 1's currently.  Thanks for the input.

Well if you are going square you will have to also have all four rims the same width as you know and having the rear 8" wides on front really isn't an option so...another set of fronts for the rear...unless you get a full set of four from another manufacturer. If so do know CFM makes their wheels thinner and also makes their studs shorter on some so might have to change-out the studs. And your 500 is really going to feel the weight of the extra tire mass so If I had to go larger, I wouldn't go any more then 27s but I would consider all four in a 10" wide tire instead of the 9s. A little nicer ride and only an inch narrower then the current 11s on back...and an inch wider on front over the current 9s. But watch the weight as best you can. I like radials because of the longer contact patch and better ride over Dias but the weight can add up pretty fast especially going to an 8-ply tire.

I hadn't considered going 10" so that's something to think about for sure.  I do have a spare rim for the front currently, so if I went square w oem fronts I would only need to find 1 oem front rim to purchase, then I'd just run without a spare.  I bet I could find a take off pretty easily.  I wish I could try it before I buy it, I'd hate to loose a noticeable amount of power over a stock setup.....

No matter what, even just replacing the stock 2ply tires with ...anything.. is more weight and it will be noticeable. Can't get around that. Can clutch for some of it...but it sounds like you already have a decent setup. I say get something that can be trusted and just live with it. :)
