New owner! Couple electrical questions
« on: December 27, 2025, 10:34:46 PM »
I just picked up a 2020 ZForce 800 EX and a 2021 950 Sport. I can’t wait to really get into enjoying these machines! I’m an electrical kind of person and really enjoy tinkering with things.

I have just a few simple projects I want to work on first on the 950, one of which is to get some backup lights on this. It’s hard to reverse when its dark! Hooking some up to a switch is pretty straight forward but I know there are some connectors with unused but ready to go circuits in some places on these machines, anyone know if there is a reverse light circuit which would activate when shifted into reverse? I didn’t see anything that looked promising back there.

Is there a good source for detailed electrical schematics for these? I found the shop manual which has great detail on some things including connector pinouts and everything, but it was mostly for engine management and such. what I’d mostly want is schematics for all the lights and power distribution. I found information in the manual about the lights, but that section didn’t have the connector pinouts and wire colors etc. Looking forward to creating some mod videos with these!

Welcome and congrats on the new machines. To my knowledge there is no prevision for back-up or reverse lights on either but it's easy enough to use the gear selector switch, which provides a ground for all the dash gear LEDs, to use a simple ground-triggered relay to power reverse lights. you do need to know which one is the reverse light wire...and I might have a wiring diagram for the 950 that I can PM you a link to. If I have one I will do just that. You are in luck as I just checked and I do have a service manual that I did find and added the wiring diagram to. Looks like its the Sb/w wire...which means Sky Blue with a White stripe. Those switches are usually on the front driveline-side of the engines somewhere. I will PM you a link that will expire in 48 hours.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. I have been distracted with a bunch of other things but I have the machine apart right now to do a bunch of enhancements. Since it the first electrical mods I'm doing some of the basics like setting up a fuse/relay box for this and future accessories. I'm rearranging the light switches on the dash, moving some machine related switches to the spare slots down where the override switch is to make room for some additional switches for additional lights. I got a switch for the reverse lights also so my plan is to wire them up to come on automatically in reverse but also to have a manual switch to turn them on. Its so nice with this machine how easy it is to take things apart and run wires. Compared to cars the side by side is very accessible. Strange to see black wires carrying anything other than chassis ground though. That diagram is very helpful for figuring things out.
