Re: New cforce 400. Voltage jumps over 16 volts sometimes

Is this possible here and is stator replacement super easy on cfmoto or lots of parts have to come off?
No stator is all that easy to replace but..time, a gasket and seal or two, a new stator and a few hand tools and way you go. Do get a manual though...

So you say stator is not difficult to replace. that's great.

Any ideas why voltage spikes on cold but not on hot motor?

Would that possibly suggest the stator or not?

Frankly this is a new situation and when it happens.. is also an oddity. Suggesting a possible stator problem is not much more then a guess because failing stators don't usually go up on voltage or spike...or make any different hot or cold. They drop in voltage as the coil)s) burn up...a failing phase. Test it before removing anything. If the voltage separately and combined is correct and the ohms are also withing spec, leave it alone. Otherwise replace it. I would suggest that when you test the voltage you do so the same way as it takes to spike the battery voltage to see if it does the same there on any one of the three phases...or any combination.

Here, use these specs. They all are about the same anyway. This one might be a little higher on voltage as it's from a 1000 with P/S:

OK thanks, understood. So it comes down to testing. Appreciated. I might be dropping it off at another dealership, as the first one doesn't seem to have any qualified staff... Sadly, the other dealership has said they've only carried and serviced cfmoto for the last 2 years, so i asked them if they can tap into the knowledge database, hopefully maintained by cfmoto HQ, but his answer wasn't clear. They have carried Polaris tho for years so hopefully the tech and repairs are similar.

In the meantime, i will try to continue to use the bike. Is it harmful to use it with the momentary voltage spikes until it warms up? Can something be damaged if I get some 16.8v etc a few times for the first few minutes?

Hello everyone, issue has been resolved.

The telling thing was that main starter solenoid, with big 30amp fuse was blowing it every 4 months. Melting it to pieces.

Turns out it was causing the voltage spikes!

Solenoid was replaced and the issue has been fixed.
