New atv class laws in MN
« on: July 20, 2015, 04:53:51 PM »
MN separates atvs into two classes. 1 and 2. Until recently it was by weight and displacement. Now it is based on 50"width mesured at the rims. They list the z6 as 52 wide but I think that's total width. I am not sure how they plan to do this. Bring it in to get mesured before they give you tabs?

I've never actually measured it, but I would guess it's the mirrors that are pushing you out to 52.

Minnesota DNR loves to be vague when they write out the laws. That way they can decide what side of the law you are based upon their mood. They are saying rim to rim so I will have to find a way to accurately mesure it. Then keep a tape measure with me just in case one of them gets out of his truck tugging up on his belt.

On my Z8, it's 50.75" across the front tires outside edge to outside edge so if I was to take the tires off, mount the rims only I am sure it would be at or slightly under 50". At the shoulder bar, the widest point aside from the mirrors, from outside edge to outside edge I get about 53". Now that I have installed the EX fenders on my 53 I'll have to take some new "Widest Point" measurements once I have completed the modifications I am doing to them. I am taking the lower wings off because they will be what will catch first on the restrictors we have around here.
