Negotiating Price with dealer
« on: February 19, 2017, 09:43:32 AM »
I was just wondering if anyone had any luck talking the dealer down on the price at all? I asked the dealer if he could come down at all since I was paying cash and he pretty much told me that the list price was the best he could do. I am going to call a couple of other dealers but there are only two other ones that are within 2 hours of me so I really don't want to have to drive that far. The dealer that said he cant come down on the price at all is only five minutes from my house.

Yes, had some success.  Had to do some homework, though.  Found 3 other dealers in about a 6 hour radius that were selling theirs cheaper.  How much they can negotiate likely depends on quite a bit.  One big factor is how many units they bought at one time and what their shipping cost was per unit.  If you are trying to buy something that is already there on their floor, I would think they could negotiate some.  If you are ordering one, then I would say not so much.  There's a dealer in Michigan selling them for MSRP OTD ($11,599), which includes all tax, fees, destination charges, set up, etc.  Others are sticking to MSRP PLUS all that stuff.  One dealer I spoke to in Wisconsin was asking $9999 for a '16 Zforce EX EPS, which is a good price.  BUT.....they were tacking on $795 for freight/destination charges, $440 for set up, $140 for admin fees, and sales tax, which amounted to $12k OTD.  Not exactly a great deal anymore.  The place I went to sells a lot of motorcycles, and they sell them more in the spring, and the off-road stuff generally sells better in the fall.  Now would probably be a good time to buy an off-road machine.

I plan on picking one up next friday or saturday.  I went down last week and he has one in stock that he showed me.  I am going to call the other two dealers that I found and see what they say.  The last one I bought from a dealer was a Suzuki and they were willing to negotiate the price some and threw in a free helmet.

We picked ours up three weeks ago yesterday. 2017 Z800 EX EPS(i think EPSis standard on 2017 models) Ordered it and got $500 off + $100 certificate for in store 'stuff'. The total shipping and set up/dealer prep was $600 which seems to have a wide difference between dealers. Dropped by Friday to pick up some paper work and they GAVE me a new Unifilter for the car-said they were now installing them at setup because they had seen two upper engine failures and don't want to see any more air filter caused problems. Great dealership IMHO.
Bobby J's in Albuquerque.

Yeah we are pretty lucky to have Bobby-J's so close and treat people as good as they do.

I am going to stop in and talk to him again and check with the other two dealers and see what they say.  Maybe he will change his mind if I show him that I am willing to travel a little farther for a better deal, or maybe the cash in hand might make him a little more willing.

If you tell the dealer this, and drive X amount of hours for a "better deal", fairly certain he will put you at the end of the line for any service work and possibly refuse to service it. I am not saying this dealer is like that, but some certainly are.

Not sure how close you are to Slovan Pa. but a dealer on CL. Has a bunch of CFMoto in stock.  Seems pretty good on prices too.  I'd look at Kibuk's they really are great to deal with. I didn't buy mine there but they have never given me a hassle about service. Even when they had to make a 3hr round trip to p/u and another 3 hrs to drop it back off to me.

I wouldnt pay more than 11k OTD for a new Z force 800 EX power steering. Anymore than that, you can get a Yamaha Wolverine R spec.

11k OTD was the price I was given on a 16 Z force 800 ex EPS when I was shopping, I still decided against buying it due to me being uncomfortable with the spotty QC, as well as the cockpit ergos were uncomfortable to me even with the seat all the way back. I also wasnt impressed with how hard the shifter was to move from one position to the next, quite annoying actually.

The local dealer had one of those outside.  They are a Yamaha dealer.  I sat in it.  The sales manager came over and told me he wasn't impressed with the powerplant in those.  In fact, he didn't have much good to say about it at all.  I found that odd and moved on.

Wolverine R Spec SE 13K OTD with a free winch kit, I did say any MORE than 11k I would go Yamaha. its no speed demon, but its a reliable setup, no belt issues, no wet clutch issues, no dirt in airbox issues, NO heat in cab, better shocks, more roomy, and I now have seen several of them locally with 4k and up problem free miles.

I do think the CF Moto is a nicer lookin machine, but that doesnt matter much when its got a blown up engine. electrical issues, frame tabs breaking off, blown diffs, shock springs rubbing thru shocks, shock ends falling off, thermo switches failing,etc......

Profit margins........ I bet he didnt mention that part. Anybody that tries to sell ya a CF Moto over a Yamaha has got to be a tad bit off.  ::)
