low oil pressure
« on: July 06, 2020, 06:16:17 AM »
hello. I have a 2020 zforce 80p trail and the oil pressure light will come on sometimes when ridding. Only for a couple of seconds.  Seems to happen after a throttle kinda hard then let off and let it idle. Ive been reading its a common thing for these to hace a faulty sender. Going to call the dealer tomorrow and see what they say. Hoping its just the sender cause a have a trip the zforce in 4 days. It only had 13 hrs on it and I've been breaking it in by the book

There is only two possibilities. Either it has a bad sending unit/switch...or it actually does have low oil pressure. Make sure your dealer tests the oil pressure when he switches it out. Knowing....is key.

what pressure should I be seeing? Cause if the dealer can't check it out before my trip I might just pick a Guage up and check it myself

Something above 20psi at idle and around 60psi at 5-6K would be normal. close to or below 10 is where the light comes on.

So I get 28 at idle when warm and 60 at 5000 rpm. So I'm guessing sensor is bad

Just had pressure tester hooked up while ridding around and it does drop below 10 sometimes.  So maybe it's not the switch

That would be my thinking too. Hundreds have been bad...Good to know the engine is OK.

When does it drop below 10?

If I hit the brakes hard it'll drop for a couple seconds after idling. Oil is in the middle of the dipstick too

Oh...one of those... Better run it toward the top of the stick. There are several causes for low oil pressure from bad rod bearing which it constant along with a stick pressure relief valve and plugged oil cooler..but a couple that cause it to either retard the oil return to the area where the pump picks it up or slows it from coming through the strainer. For you it sounds like you have one of those with a casting or gasket issue that slows the return of oil from the transmission back to the sump area and when you hit the brakes the flow back to the sump is stopped for long enough that the sump runs dry and the pump pulls air in. A little higher level gives it a little more time before this happens. Weird how some have this issue and some don't if all the casting were the same.

No..don't. Just to be sure, -top of the stick is the full mark with it NOT screwed in. That's where you have it..right?  And let me ask...when you hit the brakes at idle, does the engine RPMs drop? If it drops to say 800 the oil pressure will also fall off.

I'll have to see if the rpms drop that much. And yeah when I check it, I pull the dip stick out, clean it and then put it all the way in without screwing it in. So as low as it goes without screwing

So rpm does not drop that low. Only drops th about 1400rpm
