Leaning Tire
« on: November 03, 2019, 06:26:14 PM »
Not sure yet what it is, I just noticed after cleaning up the 1000 after a hard weekend of riding at Busco beach, that my left rear tire is leaning in at the top slightly.I haven’t started digging into it yet will have to wait till tomorrow after work, any thoughts ahead of time from you guys ? I’ll start with the obvious looking for a bent rim or A arms, or studs on the spacer, not sure if the shock might have something to do with it ?

First check all the wheel lugs...both sets. After that the #1 reason for negative camber on the rear is bad lower knuckle bushings. Both my OE yellow bushings went bad shortly after I installed the wheel spacers but replaced them with black Delron ASRs and they have been good ever sense. CFM was to start using a better bushing but if yours are yellow...or loose, look to Garage Products for bushing upgrades that last forever. Next is the a-arm bushings-upper. And last is a bent a-arm or really wasted wheel bearing but if it was a wheel bearing that brake would be dragging badly.

Thnx NMK, Upper and lower A arm bushings are black and appear to be centered around the bolts from a casual glance.Jacking it up tomorrow and digging into it.

Jack it up and wiggle.  You'll probably find it real quick.

LOL Ponytail you ain’t kidding, Busco is rough !. Man the Z Was jammin with the new exhaust and the power controller dialed in, didn’t notice the tire lean till I got home. I jacked it up and nothing is moving, took off the spacers and re torqued all lugs, scratching my head now, not finding the slight lean.

Is it possible the suspension was off kilter when you were looking at it before?

Bent A arm? Broken weld on or twisted brackets on the frame for the A arm? Rear knuckle (I know it’s not called a knuckle on the rear but I forgot what it’s called) 🤨 just thanking out loud here.

Well after much measuring and checking bushings, I have found a slightly bent upper a arm mount gusset allowing the hub to lean in. No cracked welds but I thought the motos steel would be tougher than this. Not sure if I want to heat and tweak back or go with an after market a arm set. Any thoughts on a brand if I do change them out ? Riding is slowing a bit with the temps really dropping, might be a good time for some off season work. Thanks in advance men

If it's still under warranty they should fix it. Otherwise, yeah, most all Chinese metals and alloys are speced to... a different standard...then we are used to. From our prospective it would be classified as sub-standard. Anything you do can only improve it so.. go for it. SATV does have some nice a-arms though:

If it's in a place that's possible i might heat,  bend then weld in reinforcing steel.  That's if you don't want to spend money.  If you want to spend money get high clearance aarm set.

Thanks for the input guys, I seen those super atv high clearance a arms but wasn't to crazy about the camber adjustment aspect just because i think that might be a weak link if not beefed up enough ( i ride pretty hard ), i wish i could find some like the c f moto but better steel quality, thoughts ?

Buzzard. We put the super atv a arms on a buddies Polaris. We were amazed at how heavy duty they were. I know you ride hard but after seeing these,I think the frame will bend before these A arms.

Thanks ponytail, I’m probably gonna go with them. Did he do the fronts as well ? They say you get about 1 1/2” ground clearance and 1 1/2” added offset in the rear, How’d they look ? You rock bro
