Kawi brute force 750
« on: October 03, 2023, 12:47:15 PM »
I know this post (question)is off subject of cf moto.I was told it would be ok.I will do the short version.
Bought a 06 Kawi brute force 750 a few months ago.My son n law did the transaction cause i had other stuff to do.
He picks it up ,gets it home and first thing i do is check the oil ,it's barely reading on the dip stick.
Put some oil in it take it out for the day get back oil is low again.
Put it in the shop the guy couldn't find any leaks so he says.
a few days ago my son n law says the air  filter is real wet with oil.
I'm wondering what could possibly be wrong ?
I'm no mechanic but i'm thinking that the rings are bad and the air filter is getting blow by.
Any suggestions would help .

You are most likely right..but clean the air filter well and re-oil it lightly. With the airbox lid off and the filter out you will see two ports inside the filter area on the lower box. You may bees to take the two screws out and remove the filter cage to see them. The larger one is the crank case vent. Start it and run it for a bit. As the Brute Force has no other vent all the blowby will come up that tube. Good rings will only have a slight bit more exhausting as it pulses with the piston's movement. Bad rings will show lots of blowby and as such will push oil vapors out the tube into the filter area. Now...if you will trace the small port just underneath the vent port you will find a hose with a plug in it. That is an oil collector and should be drained every so often so do that and don't forget to re-install the plug on the end. If there is a lot of blowby take a compression test. Should be between 33 and I think 66psi with the comp releases working right. If its on the low end or under the minimum..you have your answer. Plan on at least a top end rebuild. Also look at the muffler's tip. If it looks wet..ish, its oil or antifreeze. In your case its oil from bad rings and possible bad valve seals...yeah if the compression is up where it should be they have a habit of loosing valve seals..usually exhaust and you can tell that by inspecting the stems for carbon buildup. Have to take the pipes off first. I have a service manual if needed. Just let me know.
