just changed oil on z800, kind of dark and muddy
« on: October 18, 2017, 10:27:26 AM »
I just drained the oil and was surprised at how dark and muddy it looked. Not what i expected from a new rig, that is for sure.  This rig has only 200 miles on it. I have it on a lift now and found my left front tie is bad in steering box. Right side is tight but left is loose .. Back wheel right side has slop in where lower arm connects to hub..  Starting to get concerned .. I think its time to call dealer and make a appointment for them to look at this..  Maybe the lose tie rod end is what is shutting down eps..

If it's under warranty I would take it to the dealer, just expect it to be down for 2 weeks since they never seem to have any parts at the USA warehouse. check bolts for tightness on the suspension they are known to come loose from the factory. bushings seem to wear out quick for some. mine are still all good after a year and 250 miles but I did have to replace both rear wheel bearings. If you are handy most of the time it is easier and faster to replace the stuff yourself if you don't want the downtime. The oil from the factory is crap but it shouldn't look too brown that indicates water got in, was it overfull? May just be something to keep an eye on after you have good oil in it, I check the oil often as sometimes you end up in deeper water than you expected.

where in NH?  I go up to Gorham to ride the wilds trails. It would be cool to know someone up there. Those trails are pretty rough and will beat up bearings and bushings pretty quick. I know in Gorham they are very rocky, most of them anyway.

Mt buddy has a place in Berlin on 5 acres. I camp at his place and ride from there.  Yes rocky is not the word for it lol. We go up on Friday eve and come back Sunday night. I live in Belmont NH.. Its about 95 miles one way for me..

The oil is no way milky just looks more like gear oil than motor oil. Its been so dry that is hard to find any water on the trails. The moto hangs in there as the others i ride with are can-am and Polaris . One Polaris broke the front lower arm last trip ..
