Intermittent Noise - 2013 Zforce Z6 - 600
« on: October 14, 2017, 12:48:38 PM »
Hi, I have a very strange thing happening. It's not a big problem and my vehicle runs perfectly. It's more puzzling than anything. Ok, I normally keep my unit parked outside under a carport. But this past Friday I moved into the garage next to my work bench. It was about 9PM and I was working on another project reading some instructions when I first notice this faint sound coming from my Z6. It was a very quiet evening and I could only hear an occasional cricket every once in a while. Anyway, I notice a faint sound coming from near the engine area of my Z6? I tried to rationalize to figure out what it was? It sort of sounds like a faint horn and sounds about every 1.5 to 2 minutes? It's really hard to describe in words what it actually sounds like. I thought it might be a dying mouse or rat?? Then I thought it might be electrical so I disconnected the negative cable to the battery, but it's still there? Anyone have any idea what this is?? Like I said my unit runs fine, everything works great. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions you may have.

Take the gas cap loose and see if it quits. When the tank's vent check valve leaks by the checks, it can make odd sounds and this may happen when the unit is parked in an area that is different in temperature then it was in expanding or contracting the fuel in the tank.

Wow!! Last night I was telling my son-in-law that I thought that may have something to do with it. Then I said, but surely it wouldn't be venting that frequently???  At any rate I'll go ahead and do as you suggested and loosen the gas cap and see if that stops the noise. Thanks so much!

I've owned a bunch of newer sleds and found the same situation during night hours...venting from daytime heat difference / yes , quite a startle at first !! :)
