I thought that this would be a good subject, plus i'm curious. And where do you live.
I live in Weiser,Idaho and it's legal to operate a quad or SxS on the city streets and around town in general.
Certain rules you are suppose to follow to be 100% legal.
I use mine to make short trips to the hardware/grocery store ,the burger joints in town and to the river and parks to run my dog.Plus 3 miles from me are dirt roads that take you to the back side of a lake.
I find it much easier useing the buggy to get around town in than my truck.Plus way better on gas.And as always my smaller dog who is a schnorgi is always in the other seat,he thinks the buggy is his.
Weiser isn't a big town at all so getting around is real easy.

In most States street legal use of UTVs is controlled at the State level.  Usually those laws prohibit use on Interstates and State highways and where they're allowed they're usually speed restricted.  In some cases these rules can be overridden within a city's limits though.  One approach that some of us take is to license our UTVs to be street legal and that then really blurs the lines of where it can be legally operated.  However in Texas where I live, UTVs can't be licensed to be street legal, but because of reciprocity between States so if a UTV is licensed to be street legal in another State, it can be used on streets and roads in Texas.  The one "wrinkle" in this is that since I'm a Texas resident I have to register my vehicles in Texas within 30 days of bringing them into the State.  Since mine is here in Texas I'm required to re-register it, but since Texas doesn't register UTVs I can't.  (There is a loophole that if the UTV is registered out-of-state as a motorcycle, then the registration can be transferred to Texas which does do motorcycle registrations.)  I've only make mine street legal to make is easier to get from campgrounds to trails and I rarely if ever drive it on the streets or roads in Texas which is the only State that would bring up the 30 day thingy. I figure if I ever do get pulled over in Texas I'll let the cops try to figure it out.  There are a couple of on-line companies that can handle all the paperwork to do this for you. The one I used was Dirt Legal.

Yeah, every State I've lived in has its share of goofy laws, rules, and regulations usually involving things used for fun, recreation or relaxation.  LOL
